Serge hangs up the phone. He phoned into the company that supplies him with work. No jobs await him for now. He decided to take a few weeks off, to fix up his grandmother's house. He got a call from her a few days ago to tell him she is at a friend's house in Saint-Savin. She has a bout of pneumonia and couldn't stay on the farm during her illness.
It suits him perfectly, now he can restore her house a little bit before she goes home. He decides to go to the hardware shop on the corner to get a few supplies to use on his grandmother's house.
He walks the short distance to the hardware store. When he enters the store he greets the owner behind the counter and moves between the shelves to gather what he needs. He buys a few tins of paint, brushes, tarp and a few other supplies.
