I grabbed my keys back off the stand next to the door, along with my backpack and headed for my truck. I didn't know where I was going but one thing was for sure I could use a drink. I remember there was this little pub on the corner a few blocks east. Without so much as a second though I threw my bags into the bed and then drove toward the Piggly Wiggly. The house was packed but lucky for me I found an empty seat at the bar.
“Hey, Mister Bartender can I have a beer.”
I had that one down in no time at all and waved him down for another and then another. Then some stranger walked up and offered me a shot which I didn't think twice about taking. In the end I ended up closing the place down for the night. The bartender walks up to me and says my dear we're closing its time to go. Please just my dear we're closing its time to go. Please just a little bit longer at this point it started to rain. He then pulls a bottle off the top shelf, grabs two glasses and pours two drinks.
“Won't you get in trouble?
My dear, I own this joint. I think it's safe to say it's fine. But you on the other hand look like a lady drinking too forget.
I don't want to burden a stranger with my problems.
Actually, I'm the perfect person for that after all who's to say we'll see each other again. “
I realized that this stranger had a point but why was he so willing to make sure that I was okay. He probably had just as long a day as me if not longer. However, there was this undeniable aura about him that made it seem as though he would be easy to talk too. He toured us another shot. I just didn't know that the next shot would change everything.
“If it helps the name Darrel.
Im Rosalyn.
So, Rosalyn, are you willing to tell this old bartender your story. "
Not much of a story. I followed what I thought was the love of my life out here for his job. Then decide to go back to school and something out here. But after six months he called me up after class saying we needed to talk only to break up with me and throw me out. Leaving me with nowhere to go and I'm struggling with my classes this semester. Plus I lost my job tonight too. I think that about wraps everything up.”
I caught Darrel staring at a picture behind the bar that I didn’t notice before. She was a gorgeous redhead with emerald green eyes and a smile that seemed to melt the coldest of hearts. I could tell there was a story there that he was ready to tell by the way he started talking to the picture.
“Looks like we're taking in another stray Daisy.”
So, that was her name and what does he mean by stray.
“ Do you need a place to stay? It's pretty late and I think you had a little too much too drive like this. You can stay in one of my son's old rooms. All you gotta do is take the stairs to the left. It will take you up the apartment stairs which is where I live.
“I don't even know how to thank you, Darrel.
Your welcome, kiddo. After all sometimes we just need a break when everything goes wrong. I will be up after I finish closing up for the evening.”
I headed for the stairs and much to my surprise there really was an apartment, but it was much bigger than I was expecting considering the size of the pub underneath. A few moments later he joined me up there leading me to a little room off to the right. Then turned around and pointed to another room to the left.
