Chapter 9: Corey“Here we go, a hearty vegetarian casserole. I bet that’s better than whatever you’ve been eating lately.” Zeke places the meal on the table. “Worth getting dressed up for?” He eyes Elijah, who’d gotten changed into black jeans and one of Zeke’s button-up black shirts while Zeke had been cooking. The baggy way Zeke’s shirt swims on him until it’s tucked into the small waistband of the jeans is distracting from how pale he looks in the darker colors.
Elijah smiles and looks away, going to get plates and cutlery. He glances back at Zeke and catches him still looking. Zeke’s gaze meets Elijah’s, but he isn’t embarrassed to have been caught staring.
Instead of looking away, he gives Elijah a sweet smile that spreads a pink rouge over Elijah’s cheeks.
