The beginning of hell

The memory is still fresh in my mind like it happened just yesterday. I woke up to the knocks on the door. I opened it only to find two police officers staring back at me. "I'm sorry for the disturbance this late at night" one of the officer said. " The is an issue" he continued. I could feel my heart beat racing. "Mr. and Mrs. Jonas have been involved in a car accident". I looked down to see him handling me some items they found during the accident. I took them with shaky hands still shocked at the news they had told me."We need you to sign these". I did as I was told and sign the documents they had given to me. They left saying I needed to be at the hospital the next day. I closed the door behind them and turn around when I felt my younger brother tugging on my PJ'S."Winter is everything alright?". "Where's mummy and daddy?". I knelt down beside him holding his hand. "Mummy and daddy are fine". "They're on trip and we'll be back a year's time." I smiled to reassure him. "You need to go to bed you have school tomorrow". He gave me a good night hug and climb the staircase to his bedroom. And I.... well let's just say I cried myself to sleep on the cold hard floor.

Life without my parents was a total nightmare. I had to take up multiple jobs to cater for my brother and myself. Paying the bills.... my brother's fees.. And don't get me started on the rent. It felt like I was running a race that I couldn't even see a freaking finish line. And got to be doing it every single day. There were times I wanted to give up. But every time I look at my brother and his cute and adorable face I knew I couldn't do it. I had to get off my butt and work my ass off.

I was working in a restaurant as a waitress when I was having a conversation with my friend Anna May. "Winter, I'm gonna have a party this weekend and I'd be happy if you came". I'm sorry An.... you know i have work to do. And I also have to take care of my brother at home". "Awww". Anna pouted. "You've never come to my party whenever i invited you". "Then stop inviting me then" I chuckled. " You keep making excuses.... it's not fair". She whined like a baby. "I wish I could make it up to you but...." Anna interrupted. "You can by coming to my party this weekend.... pleaseeeee". I sighed and gave in to her request but the only thing was how to tell my brother. I got home very only for me to receive a bear hug from my brother when I opened the door. "What are you doing so late at night?" "Shouldn't you be in bed by now?". Jace frowned. "I was waiting for you to come home and I miss you" Awww.... How could I be angry at this adorable panda. "It's okay.... I'm sorry can we go to bed now??" "Okay" he responded. "Good night Winter" he said. "Night night Jace"
