Chapter 12
Hayden came over to Cody’s house Saturday afternoon and insisted on introducing himself to Cody’s parents.
“It’s polite etiquette,” Hayden stated.
“We’re not dating,” Cody replied. They sat in Cody’s bedroom, waiting for night to fall and Caleb to arrive. Cody didn’t want to involve his parents in anything. It was better if it was just him dealing with all these crazy people and their stories.
“Then running into your parents would be awkward, and I wouldn’t know what to tell my grandparents,” Hayden said. “Sometimes I get the sense that they understand me. Other times, they kind of just blink and crawl away from me. I tried leaving pens and paper for them, but they kind of just crawled around over them.”
