A streak of fire and thunder emerged from Aihi’s blade, striking the nearest spear that held the net over Ekiken. The ki zapped across the amber webbing, sending the shocking energy straight into the dragon’s side. He screamed into her head.
She buckled, almost dropping her sword when she had to plant her hands on her knees. I can’t break you free.
Then focus on taking out those magicians for now.

Ekiken’s head reformed farther away from Aihi, as well as part of his body. His golden eyes bore into hers, and she felt him receding from her. Those churning waves slid away until they were lapping at the edges of her mind, barely a whisper—and so to went the burning from Ekiken’s pain.
