CHAPTER 2 I slowly walk towards, the hall where the gathering is taking place. I carefully scan the whole room before taking another step forward. I am tired of this whole thing. I thought with my gaze fixed on the floor as I walk in with William and Jack following me from behind. After walking into sight, I greet everyone with a deep bow. I steal a glance at my dad before taking my sit. All wrapped in his face is anger, disappointment. He tries to cover it all with a smile but I know the smile will soon fade after the gathering and I will get scolded again for repeating the same mistake once again. The party continued and now it is time for everyone to dance. I just sat down without moving and fix my gaze on the table with different thoughts in my mind. I was interrupted by Raymond (one of the princes. I often hear princesses and other girls wishing him to be theirs. In short, he is every girl's dream man but not mine). Raymond tap me out of my thoughts. I slowly raise up my head to look at him. Hi. I said sternly and try to move to another seat but he stopped me and grab my arm. Come and dance with me. He said with a smile on his round face. I glance at the princesses standing near. I could see jealousy written clearly on their faces. They stare at me without blinking as if casting a secret spell that will kill me instantly in their minds. I shift my gaze back to Raymond who is still holding my hand. I carefully release his grip on my arm. No thanks, I can't dance. I knew that excuse is not convincing because right from age five all princes and princesses must know how to dance. I know how to dance but I don't want to. I confessed with my gaze fixed on the floor. Why?.I kept quiet and gave no response I just kept my gaze fixed on the floor. It is okay, don't be shy every one will love to see you dance. His cold voice send shivers down my spine. I thought what I send will save me.He grab my arm carefully and walk towards the dance floor. Before he could take another step i got off his hold and run back to my room. William and Jack follow me from behind with quickened steps, they soon stopped and stand at the door. It is their duty to follow me wherever I go but have no right to ask informal questions. I could see the concern on their faces and the eagerness to talk but both are afraid of losing their job. I slide down the wall till I sit on the floor with tears flowing down my cheek. I have created another trouble for myself. I thought as I cry bitterly. Dad had sent Clara to tell me not to do what I did the last time we had a gathering in the palace. ************************* After several in in my chamber in the palace, I have finally clocked sixteen, an age where attending gatherings starts and attending royal balls. My maids dress me up with the guards around as usual. As I am been dressed up, I wonder what it is like to attend a gathering. I appreciate the opportunity because I have always been in my chamber till today. I think it is going to be fun, I will have people to talk to and for the first time I will be able to express my feelings to people. Excitedly, I walk side by sid with my guards to the gathering. I thought I would hear people talking and joking but instead silence filled the atmosphere. I felt an iota of disappointment and at the same time an iota of hope and excitement. Finally I walk in. I could hear whispering which I think is about me. Every one shift their gaze on me. This is their first time seeing me, it is right for them to stare at me. I thought as I walk forward. I feel more inconvenient as their gazes eat deep feeling into my flesh. A maid walk forward with quickened steps and draw out a chair for me. I wanted to say thank you but I don't because my dad is near and he would scold me. It have been a part of me since childhood to always say thanks to people irrespective of who they are. But my dad believe I should not thank anyone nor bow to them because I am the daughter of the richest king, but I've got no interest in all that. My father notice my inconvenience so he draw the attention of the crowd to himself as he start his speech with greetings. But few among the crowd kept staring at me with their sharp gazes piercing into my skin. I carefully study everyone and I see they all behave like royalties and that is what they are. The only thing they care about is wealth and how to become nobles. Finally it is time to dance, my father send a maid to tell me to choose Devi. He is the most handsome and the son of the next richest king. The kings, Queens and other people from royal families are arranged according to how rich they are. My dad is the richest king and King Robert(Devi's father). My dad thinks there is no other person suitable for me than Devi. The maid take a bow before leaving. I twitch my head to see Devi, he was standing among the other princes. Why must I dance with the richest prince or whatever he is called. I thought with anger burning in my mind. Soon, Devi walk towards me, my heart begin to race immediately i notice him walking towards me with his gaze fixed on me. Hi beauty. He said with a captivating smile. Hi managed to reply and shift as if no one is beside me. He carefully grab my chin and turn my face to him. I stare into his emerald green eyes for a while before yanking his hand off my chin. Am sorry for the way I touched you. He apologizes with a bow. My mind kept racing faster and faster in my heart like it wants to break open my chest. Fear grip me so tight that I can't think. Not knowing what to do, I dash our of the hall and went straight into my chamber.
