I went to my office and quickly made the flight reservations, but before I had the chance to call the hotel and book a room in my name, Adrian stormed my office, unhappy about the delay and told me to be downstairs in two minutes. He then left me to pack my bag and wait for the elevator to take me to the first floor.
"Do you know where we going?" I asked Renee, who was looking through some folders and searching for something.
"Hmm?" she didn't even glance my way, obviously busy. The elevator dinged, and after murmuring "Nevermind" to Renee, I pushed the button for the first floor and used these seconds in the lift as a chance to slow down my racing heart and take a few deep breaths. He was my boss and this was just another day in the work. Nothing was going to happen.
When I finally left the building, a black limousine was already parked in front, Adrian standing next to it and talking to somebody on his phone. As soon as he saw me, he nodded his head towards the car and I climbed in the back. Soon after that he ended his conversation and then followed me in.
“What are we doing?” I asked, dodging his eyes. I still felt very uncomfortable in his presence, which was a bit weird, considering I had seen Jake naked and watched him do those things. Adrian had kept his member in his pants and his hands to himself, except for that day in the publishing house when he had kissed me goodbye.
Yesterday though he had kept things as professional as he could. He had flirted and dirty-talked to me while we watched his brother f**k the girl right in front of me, but I guess I felt more drawn to Adrian than Jake and maybe that's why the disappointment that he had simply left me there after all the build-up was eating me more than shame for watching Jake do such an intimate act.
"You're coming with me to our newest investment," he simply said and turned back to his phone. "You need to get to know our companies and the people working there in order for you to be able to assist us," he added and from the looks of it, started answering some business-related e-mails, completely shutting me out.
I let him do his thing. I really didn't mind the quiet and at the moment I yearned for some peace. Yesterday I had googled the twins, trying to get more information about their professional life. I wanted to know what they did on a daily bases, how many companies did they own, how rich and well-connected they actually were.
The results blew my mind. Woodhouse was a household name. Everyone knew these business moguls since they were dabbing their feet in so many fields. Apparently, not including their real estate business, they also were working in marketing and publishing, they had their own scotch brand and hotel chain. Before I could look any further though, I had come upon an article that had completely changed the way I looked at the twins.
Jake was engaged. Or at least, he was just two months ago. His fiancee had been in every magazine and the rock on her finger was the most talked about and envied jewelry at that time. People were saying that Elizabeth and Jake were the new iconic couple of the decade, but then suddenly the wedding was called off, and no one had seen Elizabeth since then. Jake started turning up at the events with other women, never staying with one long enough to be called anything more than a fling, and the thing in the office had definitely shown me that Jake was no longer pining after his ex-fiancee.
However, even if he acted like a cold bastard, I at least understood that he was capable of feeling more and his cold demeanor was probably a result of being completely heartbroken. That, though, didn't explain Adrian's behavior or the weird game they had started with me.
I looked at the mystery of a man sitting next to me. As if he had felt my gaze, he looked up and smirked when our eyes connected. "What're you thinking?" he purred and I felt myself blush. The tone of his voice was so unique, so undeniably his, that I felt my body respond to it. I had felt his lips on mine once already and my body wanted more. It demanded more.
"How much I liked my previous job," I said, trying to clear my head of any images involving the two of us, giving in to my urges here in the back seat.
He frowned and put down his phone. "That's not a nice thing to say to your new boss, Isabella."
"Can't say the boss is nice to me. Or that he deserves my kindness," I narrowed my eyes. Anger had always been a good shield when other emotions were hard to control.
"And do you think you deserve to be respected? After everything that has happened? After the way we met?" he asked, his voice uncharacteristically low.
"Are we there yet?" I asked, my voice somewhat strangled. He made me fear and long for him at the same time. My boss noticed the change and smirked again.
"Unfortunately, yes," he patted my knee, and I jerked away from the contact. I could already feel wetness pooling between my legs. I had never hated my body more than at that moment. Adrian had completely humiliated me, told me that he didn't respect me even in the slightest, and here I was, hot and bothered because of him.
So, I jumped out of the car as soon as it stopped. I took a deep breath and tried to relax, but Adrian came to stand next to me and when he put his hand on the small of my back, I couldn't suppress the shudder that tore through my body. He chuckled and leaned in "Oh, today is going to be fun, Ms. Faith," he said but his words were muffled in my ears. I had just breathed in his scent, that was musky and so much male, that I started to feel faint.
I took an unsteady step back and looked into his green eyes that radiated mischief and hoped to god that I was strong enough to endure this meeting.
You're not a mouse, Izzy. So don't act like one. You're here to show him that you are a professional, hard-working woman and damn him for treating you like anything less. After all, he had no reason to use the initial meeting as an excuse to not take you seriously. He was at the club as well and he was the one who approached you.
I looked him in the eye, took his hand away from me and smiled sweetly. "I do believe you are right. So let's start, shall we?" Looking at him was like looking at a predator, but I didn't back away. Instead, I plastered my best fake smile as I approach the building.
