CHAPTER TWO

[ Knights Estate – Grand Mansion ] Sound of footsteps echoed down the grand staircase and every maid snapped into place, lining up with their heads bowed because of the arrival of their boss. Gabriel Knight. He descended the stairs with commanding, dominating presence, dressed in a tailored black Armani suit with a tie that rested against his throat. His hair was thick, dark and brushed back to expose the chiseled angles of his face with one strand falling over his face that made him look even more handsome. “Good morning, Sir"The maids chorused in unison. Gabriel offered nothing more than a single nod because his attention was just on his precious daughter, Sophie, he was holding in his arms. She was dressed adorably in her navy school uniform with her little shoes polished and her tiny hands were wrapped around his neck with her innocent eyes fixed on his face. “Daddy, let’s wait for Eva, please"She said softly in a sweet voice and Gabriel's lips curved into a large smile then he pressed a tender kiss to Sophia’s hair. “We’ll drop you at school first, princess then Daddy will take Aunty Eva to college"He responded, kissing her again then moments later, his frown returned instantly filled displeasure while staring at the numerous maids. He hated the excess staffs in his home but his wife keeps hiring more because she couldn't even lift a teacup without summoning a maid to help her with it. “Sir, forgive the interruption but your signature is required immediately. Crestview Towers"His assistant rushed towards him, holding an iPad and extending a file to Gabriel. Gabriel adjusted Sophia against his arm, freeing one powerful hand while his assistant stepped forward, opening the folder and holding it up for him. “Tell the clients the revised designs will be sent before noon and wnsure the structural corrections are implemented, No delays" “Yes, Sir"The assistant said quickly, handing him a pen while Gabriel read the content before he signed. “I’ll have the driver prepare the car at once"His assistant added nervously. “Do that"Gabriel replied with an approving nod. “Good morning, Gabriel.” A soft female voice greeted from behind him and Gabriel's entire body stilled the moment he heard that voice then his nose caught a whiff of a familiar fragrance of vanilla and Jasmin that filled the air. Sophia squealed with delight, wriggling in Gabriel's arms until he almost lost his grip. “Eva!” “My baby!” Evangeline’s melodic voice answered as she rushed forward with her arms outstretched and Gabriel surrendered Sophia her with a smile appearing on his face. The little girl buried her face in Evangeline’s neck, giggling with pure joy while Gabriel’s eyes remained locked on Evangeline's beautiful face before he could stop himself. Her face was the kind that could make a man lose his mind, Her skin was glowing under the morning light, her lashes framed those wide eyes that sparkled with warmth and excitement as she held his daughter and then there were her plump lips, his gaze were fixed on the smile there before his eyes trailed her body. The high-waisted jeans she was wearing hugged around her narrow waist then flared deliciously at her hips and curves then her top was brown and simple but it pushed out her brèàsts and he despised himself for noticing how perfect her nîpplés would look pressing against that fabric if she got just the slightest bit cold. She shifted Sophia higher in her arms and his gaze dragged lower again, tracing the way those jeans molded against her thighs, down to her long, toned legs that could straddle and ride a man to heaven. Gabriel swallowed hard and tore his eyes away from her with his jaw tightening. He had no business looking at her like that. She was his wife’s little sister and he was a married man. “Evangeline"Gabriel acknowledged in greeting and her breath hitched at the sound of his voice, suddenly noticing that he was right in front of her. A faint blush bloomed across her cheeks as she tilted her chin up to look at him and their eyes locked for long moments. “Gabriel…”She whispered back with her own voice softer than she intended then she blinked quickly, forcing a small, apologetic smile. “I’m sorry for keeping you waiting, I didn’t mean to delay you” His expression softened with a little smile. “It’s no problem, You’re here now. Have you had breakfast?” Her blush deepened and she shook her head. "No, I… I didn’t have time. I’ll just eat when I get to school.” His smile vanished, replaced instantly with a hard frown then he turned toward the butler. “Tell the maids to pack food for her in a flask, She’ll have in the car"He ordered. "No, really, Gabriel. There’s no need, I’ll be fine honestly, you don't have to...." “You’re my wife’s sister and in her absence, I should be taking care of you. I won’t have you starving not for a second"Gabriel interrupted her words and the authority in his tone made it impossible to argue so her protest died instantly on her tongue with her face reddening. She forced back the blush that kept reappearing so it wouldn't be obvious that she had a huge crush on her sister's husband which was a sin. The butler returned, holding out a silver flask that was wrapped neatly in a small bag. “Here it is, Sir.” Gabriel nodded with his eyes never leaving Evangeline as he took it then he handed it to her with his fingers brushing against Evangeline's for the briefest second with sparks shooting through him at the accidental touch and clenched his jaw immediately, stepping back and she looked down. “Now you have no excuse, Let’s go.”He murmured. Evangeline nodded then she moved ahead toward the tall front doors while holding Sophia in her arms and Gabriel followed behind but then his gaze travelled to her äss that was hugged by those high-waisted jeans, looking so round and full. He nearly choked on the air and exhaled. Füçk. He swallowed hard, forcing his eyes upward with his throat bobbing. This was the exact same reason he hadn’t wanted her living under his roof but hhi wife never listened. Instead of letting Evangeline live in the dorms like every other college student, she’d insisted on bringing her here, into the mansion, she’d claimed it was better for Evangeline but Gabriel knew the real reason was because she needed someone to handle the responsibilities she didn’t want and Evangeline had stepped into that role effortlessly. She was the one who cared for Sophia whenever his wife was away on her endless modeling shoots and fashion trips. She was the one who tucked his daughter into bed at night, who reads bedtime stories for her, who cooks for her, who made her laugh. She filled the void of a mother’s absence, becoming more of a mother than his wife ever had and Gabriel was grateful for that but at the same time, he didn't like it.
