|Katherine| My heart stuttered the moment our eyes met. It was ridiculous—how something as simple as his gaze could undo me in seconds. Just one look, and everything I’d spent days, weeks, trying to bury came flooding back. Memories, emotions, fragments of laughter I pretended I’d forgotten—all of it surged in a wave of warmth and confusion that nearly knocked the air from my lungs. Something bloomed inside my chest, fragile and uninvited. It felt like joy—like sunlight spilling through cracks I hadn’t realized were still open. But maybe it wasn’t joy at all. Maybe it was longing. The raw, unshakable ache of missing him. Missing the stupid banter. Missing the way his smirk always slipped in at the worst possible moment, catching me off guard and unraveling every wall I tried to build.
