Akosua
Ama Osei, dearly beloved Ama Osei. Seriously overweight. Often overburdened with problems: her obesity, her performance in exams, her relationship with her parents, who always seemed to be on the point of divorce, money problems. Dearly beloved Ama Osei, kind and generous to a fault. One couldn’t ask for a better friend: loyal, concerned, supportive, affectionate.
On the first day of term, Ama was absent. She was one of the few day-girls. Ama would have loved to be one of us boarders but her father said he couldn’t afford the fees. So she stayed at home with her ever-bickering parents and took a tro-tro to school every morning.
