She ran as fast as her legs could carry her. Tears rolling down her cheeks, anger boiling through her gut. She felt horrified, she felt useless. She felt like her entire existence was just a mistake made by whoever their creator was. Andy fell to the ground the moment she got to the riverside. She stared at the reflection of the stars and the moon on the river as her tears dropped into it and caused it to ripple. "Why! Why! Why!" she screamed out. "Why would you create me like this?" she sobbed. Just a little while after she was done questioning her existence, she heard a voice. It was calm, it was still "You will find the answers you seek, in the pages beyond the mountain's peak" "who are you?" she asked but got no reply and saw no one to expect a reply from. "You will find the answers you seek in the pages beyond the mountain's peak" she repeatedly said what she had heard before leaving the riverside to go back home. "Andy um...your mum and I would love to talk to you" Raphael said immediately Andy walked inside the house, like he'd been patiently waiting for her to arrive. She followed her dad to the living room, where her mum was already seated "Look honey..." Rachael took a deep breath "...I know how it feels to be a little different. I know it hurts but it's not the end of the line, or the world either" "Is that all? All you called me to say" Andy responded rudely "oh honey" Rachael and Raphael said almost at once. They knew Andy was going through a tough time, hence her response and attitude. "The truth is ma" Andy paused "You don't know how it feels cause you've never felt it. No one here has. So please stop saying that you know how it feels to be different..." she spoke in tears "...cause you don't ". Andy stood up and left for her room, leaving both her parents "she just needs time " Raphael finally said before leaving Rachael in the room alone. Knock! Knock! "Honey" Rachael said after knocking on Andy's door "I know it's tough, I really do, but I want you to always remember that we have your back and that we love you" she paused "Good night honey" she said before leaving Andy tried going to bed after listening to her mum, but couldn't. She kept tossing and turning on her bed, the words "You will finds the answers you seek, in the pages beyond the mountain's peak " kept ringing strong bells in her head and this made her uncomfortable. She felt so disturbed and finally stood up. She walked down to her family's library in the hopes that she could find some answers. Slowly touching books in a particular row in the shelf next to her, she mumbled "books have pages" "what's above the peak supposed to mean?" she asked herself. She needed more clues on getting the riddle solved. She finally gave up after trying so hard to figure it out and decided to go back to her room. On her way out, she accidentally knocked over one of the books hanging out of the shelf. She bent down to pick up the book and noticed an engraved carving on the side of the shelf next to her. "Thought I heard something" Alex said when he walked into the library to find his little sister on the floor "what are you doing down there?" he asked Andy who seemed to be lost in thoughts rather than being startled. "Uhmm... nothing" she said sharply, like she had been yanked out of her thoughts "Although..." she said as she rubbed her palm on the engraved carvings on the shelf "...I was wondering if there was an engraved carving of mountains at the library, like this one?" "Yes there is, it's right behind the last shelf at the library" Alex slowly drew his words as he tried to explain, while looking at his sister with so much confusion and curiosity. "Is there something going on that I need to know know about?" he asked "it's nothing really" "Are you sure about that?" "Yes. I. Am. Totally. Fine" she said as she placed both her hands on his shoulders, tapping on them after every word she spoke, while Alex just stood. She left Alex and went straight to her room. The next morning, she moved straight to the end of the library and started searching for the carving of the mountain. On the wooden platform, that looked like a wall, where she searched were other engraved carvings that spoke about their ancient history. In her attempt to move forward, she bumped into someone, Rosa, who was accompanied by Derrick. Rosa and Derrick were both friends of Andy. Rosa was black and had the ability that most people in the village craved for. They were a little similar to Cisco's ability but way better and enhanced, at least in one area, communication. She had mind reading abilities, but also had limitations. She had her own kryptonite like superman did. Once she ate or had anything that had lemon in it, she had a mental block, which made it impossible for her abilities to function. Derrick on the other hand, could create objects from anything, as long as he had a clear image of what he wanted to create. "What's going on?" Rosa asked with both her hands on her waist like she was in model at a photoshoot, about to take a picture, before she hurriedly switched by folding her hands in front of her chest and tilting her face in a way that showed how mad and angry she was. "Shh!" Derrick tried to keep her quiet "We're in a library remember" he whispered. "I'll explain later, just help me find a engraved carving..." "..of a mountain..." Rosa completed her sentence "like this one?" she continued, pointing out to what she had found. "Thought we agreed to the "no mind reading of friends", Rosa" Derrick said as he air quoted no mind of friends. "oh...I'm sorry" Rosa apologized "This doesn't make sense" Andy said in confusion "what doesn't?" Rosa asked "The voice said. In pages above the mountain's peak, but I can't find anything relationship to pages here, except library books of course" Andy disappointedly pointed out. "wait a second, wait a second..." Derrick said "So um... you're doing this. because of a what a voice said?" "Mm-hmm" Andy confidently and sharply nodded "oh my God " Derrick said as he put both his hands horizontally on his face and slowly dragged them down. "Or maybe...there is a book" Rosa drew her words "if you look closely at the peak, there seems to be a key hole" "Yeah" Andy said as she rubbed the key hole with her right thumb. "D..." Andy called out to Derrick "...can you create a key that can fit into this hole?" "Well...no" "I can only make things I've got a clear picture of, and except you've got a clear image of it lying somewhere around, this..." he said pointing to the key hole "...isn't clear enough" "Fair point" Andy concurred " Maybe there's something at the receptionist table that could help us out?" Rosa suggested " For a key hole this hidden, I doubt there'd be a key lying on the receptionist's table" Derrick said "Just saying" Rosa said after Derrick's words "There could be" Andy said "How about you guys meet me back here when the library's closed. My dad's got an extra key" she suggested "Beautiful perks of being an elder's daughter, I tell ya" Rosa said before leaving with Derrick.
