Beginning Of The Advance

A thought had been troubling Thomas all night long. But he didn’t let anyone know about it. When he got up in the morning, it was clear from his face that he didn’t get much sleep. When Amanda asked him about it, he said that it was just anxiety. She believed him because one of Thomas’ numerous talents was lying. He had become so perfect in the art of lying that he even once thought of being a politician, but then he couldn’t kill people without permission, so he dropped the idea. “When do we leave?” Veda asked. “I’ll tell you to get ready five minutes before we leave.” Thomas said and lit a cigarette. “Is there a specific reason for this disbelief?” Veda said, eyeballing Thomas. “Nope. I trust you, but you can never be too careful, right?” Thomas said, smiling. “Yeah, that’s fair. So what do I do now?” Veda asked. “Tell your men that they will be in lookout positions and act as a diversion in case any external backup comes to aid the guards in the prison. Also, get some rest and find your balls, you look like you’re having a heart attack. Relax!” Thomas said. Veda looked at Thomas in disgust and left without saying a word. Thomas hardly took a notice of that and continued taking long drags from his cigarette. “It’s time.” Thomas said, shaking Veda, who was sleeping profoundly. “What time is it?” Veda asked. “Ten minutes past midnight.” Thomas said and tightened the suppressor on his pistol. “Is it clear?” Thomas asked Dave, who was standing at the window, searching for any possible threats. “Something’s not right. That car has passed the road at least five times in the last fifteen minutes. And the man in the red suit has not moved for the past half an hour, smoking cigarettes or doing stupid things like eating peanuts or something.” Dave said. “Keep looking. I’ll be back in five.” Thomas said and went to his room. “Zeus, one SCAR AR with suppressor, three magazines and one ultra thin military grade armor vest.” Thomas whispered. Each one of the nine people present in the room was shocked when Thomas came out with an assault rifle in his hand. He didn’t stop to explain and went straight to the door. “Come on kids, we don’t have all night.” He said, opening the door. Thomas took cover behind a wall, so that the man across the road couldn’t see him. “You guys ready? We can’t get to the jeep unnoticed. One way or another, we’ll have to kill him. I’ll take the lead. You take care of anyone who tries to backstab me. Understood?” he said, looking at his accomplices standing behind him. Everybody nodded. When the moment arrived, Thomas stepped out from behind the wall, pointing the SCAR straight at his enemy’s head. There was no way in hell Thomas was going to miss this shot. He pulled the trigger and saw the bullet burst the man’s brain and splatter it all over the wall behind him. The man fell down with a dull thud. Thomas stepped back. Now they had to wait. Thomas signaled the men to keep weapons hot. The surroundings were notoriously quiet, and Thomas felt like he could hear the hearts of the men pounding in their chests. But Thomas was always calm; clear mind, controlled heart rate and extreme focus were the things that made him deadly. A smile appeared on his lips out of nowhere. After four minutes of undisturbed silence, Thomas heard the sound of tires. He quickly came into action. “The car is about two hundred yards away. Step out on my command.” Thomas said to his men. When he felt that the prey had stepped into his trap, he nodded. With a beautiful leap, he was standing in the middle of the road the next second. Tires screeched as Thomas kneeled down and pointed the rifle straight at the driver. With pure animal instincts taking over, Thomas pulled the trigger and didn’t lift his finger from the trigger. The spray of bullets tore through the windshield and landed straight into the driver’s chest. The car came to a halt right in front of Thomas as the driver’s head dropped on the steering wheel. The remaining three men in the car went for their guns, but it was already too late. Thomas shifted his spray to the right. His shoulder ached from the recoil, but he didn’t pay any attention to it. The bullets went through one of the goon’s eye. The tec-9 dropped from his hand. The other two dodged down to get out of harm’s way. Thomas got up and shot the man sitting in the front seat. The bullet landed in his lungs. He then went around the car. The man in the back seat was shot in the hand and couldn’t lift his gun. Thomas dragged him out of the car and pressed the bullet wound with his leg. The man screamed with pain. “Oh no no no, don’t scream. People are sleeping, you wouldn’t want to wake them up.” Thomas whispered. The terrified man even stopped whining for a second after looking into Thomas’ eyes. But when Thomas pressed his wound even harder, he yelled again. “You're a stubborn boy, aren’t you? Looks like I’m gonna have to shut you up myself.” Thomas said and pulled out a knife from his back pocket. “Please, I beg you. No, don’t.” the man said as Thomas leaned down. “I beg y…” the man said. He wanted to speak but Thomas slit his throat with one swift stroke. He tried to plead but the blood in his mouth changed it into gurgling sound. His head moved weakly as the light in his eyes went dimmer and dimmer. Thomas wiped the knife on the man’s coat and went to the front seat. He suddenly remembered something and looked back at the mutilated man. “Oh, I’m sorry I forgot. Where are my manners? So, any last words? Okay nevermind.” Thomas whispered. There was no answer (duh). The guy on the front seat was breathing slowly and his right hand was keeping pressure on the hole in his chest. “I’ll tell you anything you want. Please just…” the man said. The fear of death was evitable in his eyes. “Oh no, I already know what I need to know.” Thomas said in a tone of pity. Thomas observed him for a second and let out a cold sigh. He then inserted the knife in the man’s ear, taking it all the way to the brain. He left the knife there and shut the car door. “Apparently, your safe house isn’t safe anymore. Tell Amanda to pack her things and find somewhere safe to lay low. Go with her and make sure you're not followed.” Thomas said to one of the men, who nodded and ran back into the building. “Nice work Dave.” He said while breaking one of the other car’s window glasses. Dave smiled back. The car alarm went off as soon as the glass broke. Thomas opened the gate and signaled the other to get in too. “There’s a checkpost coming up. Stay sharp and keep your safeties off.” Thomas said after driving for thirty minutes. They were in the outskirts of the city now. The checkpost had five men with light SMGs. There were two police cars parked on the side of the road. As soon as they reached the barricades, Thomas turned to his teammates. “We don’t have much time. Light them up.” He said and took out his pistol. A policeman came forward to look at the papers, but instead looked at a pistol pointed at him. Before he could speak, Thomas shot him point blank between the eyes. All of them opened fire as soon as the first body fell. In less than a minute, the ground was covered with blood and empty barrels. Thomas got out of the car and went to one of the dead bodies. He took a hold of his radio and placed it close to his mouth. “Officers down! We need backup! They took our car and went straight on the highway. Aah, I’m not gonna make it. Help!!” he yelled. He then dropped the radio and turned around. “Four of you take the car and go straight on the highway. Keep them busy. Am I clear?” Thomas said. “This wasn’t the plan.” Veda said. “It is now.” Thomas said, frowning at him. After five minutes of riding on the forest road, the five men heard sirens. “They’ve arrived at the scene. The probability of them chasing this road is very low, but we have to be prepared.” Veda said. “Here, throw this on the ground behind us.” Thomas said, taking out a landmine from his coat pocket. “You're f*****g crazy. Do you always carry a pocket armory?” one of the men said from the back seat. “Chillax, this is a vehicle grade mine. Just throw it.” Thomas said. Thomas hummed a rhyme and continued driving as his colleagues watched him in amazement.
