I stood in the hallway for a long time, staring at the moving carvings on the walls. They were kind of mesmerizing to watch, even though I already knew what they showed. They showed things that had happened in the past … and possibly something that would happen in the future, too. I turned away from the carvings again and resumed walking down the hallway.
