Chapter Five:The Wedding Preparation.

1032 Words
There was a whirlwind of preparation before our wedding day. The arrangement was an unending fitting blur, making Julian relentlessly active ensuring every detail was carried out without any form of mistakes. Despite our agreement to be a contracted wife, there was an unspoken chemistry that simmered between us. As the wedding day arrived I felt a mix of excitement and fear piercing my heart and leaving me in contemplation. It was different from the wedding I had thought of due to the fact it was all planned. It was as if we were setting the stage for a grand performance; each exact detail was selected for public consumption. Yet there was an undeniable connection between us that seemed to grow stronger each passing day. I found myself torn between the nature of our wedding and the unexpected emotions it would stir within me. Standing at the altar was a thing of Joy as the priest unveiled our marriage vows. “Do you accept him as your husband in all ramifications?”. "Yes, I do”. I responded with a smile wishing that my contract as a wife could turn into reality. The same exchange of vow was declared by the priest leaving Julian with a positive reply. The vows we exchanged felt like lines in a carefully rehearsed play, yet there was an intensity in Julian's gaze that made my heart race. His gentle touch was firm but gentle whole slipping the ring onto my finger, sealing our contract kiss that felt both binding and liberating. I was overwhelmed having my first kiss with him. I wish he was truly my husband but my imagination couldn't manifest into reality. As we pronounced husband and wife applause erupted around us but all I could focus on was Julian. There was a brief moment where the world seemed to fade away, leaving just the two of us standing there, bound by a contract yet connected by something unspoken. The reality of our situation loomed over me, I couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead of us in this strange new chapter of our lives. Our life as a married couple began with a flurry of public appearances Julian was ever guiding me through each event we facilitated. “Thank you for accepting the offer". He said, with a cool and charming smile, I couldn't ignore his compliment, which led to my gratitude. “Well, I should be the one thanking you because you’ve given me a golden opportunity". “Will both give ourselves a golden opportunity"... “Then it calls for a bigger celebration". “Sure it will definitely be celebrated, but I have yet to get the feedback from the company I struck a deal with, when that's done we proceed further”. “Anyway Good Luck". His attentiveness was both reassuring and disconcerting with a constant reminder of the image we needed to uphold. Every smile and every gesture was planned, Yet there were moments when the life between our roles and our true selves began to blur. At each event I felt the weight of the public’s gaze, their expectations pressing down on us. Despite the pretense, there were genuine moments of connection. Julian squeezed my hand reassuringly, his touch grounding me amid the chaos. We shared stolen glances and whispered conversations that hinted at a growing bond. Yet behind the scenes, the reality of our contract loomed, a silent reminder of the fragility of our arrangement. At night, within the privacy of our home, the pretense fell away. Julian and I began to share more about our lives, dreams, and fears. “So tell me what's your greatest fear?”. The question left me shocked, but my demeaning composure erased my fear, and intended never to reveal my pregnancy to him. “I believe everyone has their fear but I don't think mine is scared". “So tell me about it?". He curiously asked. “Well, the fear of losing someone I love should be my greatest fear". I slowly replied he paused for a while staring into my eyes. "Indeed that's not scary”. "I thought as much so what about you? What's your greatest fear?”. "My fear is massive, my greatest fear is losing a Multi-billion dollar business”. His words created an amusement between us. At that moment I began to see Julian not just as a business partner but as a confidant, someone who understands me in ways I didn't anticipate. Slowly, a bond began to form, one that went beyond the terms of our contract. It was in these quiet moments that I found myself falling for him, despite the practical nature of our union. As the growing connection between us became stronger, the secret of my pregnancy hung over me like a dark cloud. Each day, the weight of my unspoken truth grew heavier, a constant reminder of the fragile nature of our relationship. I wrestled with the decision to tell Julian, fearing that revealing the truth would shatter the delicate balance we had achieved. I found myself slightly withdrawing, the fear of rejection gnawing at me. Julian noticed the change, his concern evident in his eyes. “What's it Lily? You've been acting strange this day is anything the matter?". “Not at all, is it just that I am a little bit scared?". “Scared! If I may ask what are you scared of? Oh! I forget, are you scared of losing me?". “Not have been thinking all through the day, maybe I could be missing my family, they don't even know I am here”. "That shouldn't be a burden to you, I’ll make it up to you and find a way to invite them over but our secret remains between us nobody should be aware of our contract marriage”. "That's never a problem”. I replied with an intense pretense smile "Ok no problem then you need some good rest”. Julian tried to bridge the gap, offering reassurances and kindness, but I couldn't shake the feeling that the truth would inevitably come between us.
