Chapter 16
Bryan's POV
I looked up as Ryder walked into my room and frowned at him. "What?"
He gulped as he met my eyes, shaking like a leaf. Granted I was glaring at him with so much force but he didn't have to be a wimp either. "The Council would like to meet you."
I shook my head, looking back down at the papers in my lap. "Schedule a meeting for next week."I dismissed him and waited to hear the door close behind him. When I didn't, I looked up and frowned at him. "What now?"
What had he done now?
"Alpha, they insist it must be today." He said and I sighed, waving him off with my hands. "Have the driver get the car ready."
He nodded and started to walk away but I called him back again. "Alpha?"
"Let me know when Ciara gets back," I told him and he nodded, running out of the room. I tossed the papers on the bed and rose to my feet having lost interest in them.
Ciara wasn't back yet from her trip into town and I found that very strange especially since it was getting darker. Or perhaps she had locked herself in her room?
I must have paced around for a while because suddenly Ryder was back. I eyed him, my eyes blank.
"The driver is ready Alpha."
"So soon," I wanted to say but held my peace. I nodded my head instead and looked around the room with a sigh. I wasn't ready to leave yet, I still wanted to spend more time with Ciara and get to know her. After everything that happened today, I wanted to see her, hug her and make sure she was okay.I would have liked nothing more than to make sure Ciara was safe with my own eyes but I couldn't because I had to attend this meeting. The council of Elders had called for a meeting and I couldn't just turn them down without reason even if I wanted to. Ryder my Beta had already spoken for me with them about getting a bride in two weeks. I was still pretty mad about that but what could I do?
I sighed as I walked out of the room leaving Ryder to shut the door behind me. I passed by the Alpha's office and considered teasing Orion a bit then I thought against it at the last minute. I didn't want anyone spoiling my good mood before I had to meet those geezers or else I would be pissed and it was never a good thing for an ALpha to be angry in front of elders.
I could end up saying things I didn't mean to say.
I walked out of the house, stopping briefly as I turned and looked at the door, I wanted to run back inside and hug Ciara, breathe in her scent one last time if possible. Sadly, she wasn't back yet from town and I couldn't wait or else I would be late for my meeting.
"Alpha," the driver greeted me as I got to the car. He held the door open for me and shut it when I was sitting inside. I rested my head on the door when the car started driving away from the packhouse, turning to look at it. If only I didn't have that meeting........
"Welcome Alpha," Some of the servants greeted me as I walked down the long hallway. I was sticky and itchy and longed to take a shower before meeting those men but time was already far gone. The roads had not been as smooth as I remembered them to be anymore and we had to make a few tyre changes on the way.
"this way Alpha," The bulter, John led the way to the office where I knew all the men would be sited. I followed him, thoughts of Ciara paramount in my mind. I suddenly wished I had told her about the bond and brought her here with me so those old men wouldn't bombard me with questions.
I took a deep breath as Joh stopped in front of the office door and knocked. This was it, I was about to face these men. I took a step back as the door opened and a brooding face poked out to look at us.
Upon seeing me, he opened the door wider and bowed his head as I walked past him into the office after thanking John. The room was filled with the Council as I walked in and they were deep in conversation as well. As soon as one of them sighted me, he alerted the others and the conversations stopped.
Pin-drop silence ensued as I took the empty chair sat down and looked at them. "Good day, can the meeting commence?"

"But you know the rules Alphas, you can't just sit there without a woman by your side helping you."I glared at him. "You can't force me to be with someone else who isn't my mate, rules or not. We all know how rejection is frowned upon." I said and I could see that they didn't like how knowledgeable I was concerning the law."Alpha, but you need to settle down with someone who can help you rule the pack. We understand that you took over the pack after winning a bet. We are just concerned you don't know what you are doing."
I scoffed and rose to my feet. This meeting had been a total waste of my time, I should never have come. "I will settle down when I deem fit and as for my partner, that is none of your business."
I turned on my heels and headed for the door, fighting the urge to turn back and hurl insults at them. I knew this meeting would yield no result yet I still came. I was seriously reciting it now.
"Please do not summon me on such matters again. Have a good day," I announced as I walked out of the room, a shocked John holding the door open for me.
It was too bad that most of the Alphas let these men walk over them but I wouldn't let them do the same to me. I was in this position because I had the capability and I had the sense. Blake wouldn't have handed his pack over to me if he didn't think I could do it although the man had also been swayed by alcohol.
I sat down in my car and leaned back in my seat as the door closed behind me. I watched the driver run around and sighed wishing I could see Ciara or at least hear her voice. I wish I could wrap my arms around her and feel her arms around me.
I wish I could whisper loving words in her ear and tell her how much she meant to me already. Sadly I couldn't do that until she knew who I was to her and I didn't know if it was the right time to tell her.
I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep, Ciara's face and smiling eyes haunting me in my dreams. I missed her so much.
