Chapter 2 - The Molester 2
* * *
The fading sunlight forced the still energetic man to stop his bulging arms from hitting another piece of hard land.
The shirt that he wears is now hugging his body as sweat comes out of his skin. Where he is nothing but an empty field, and his presence is the only thing that is making the place seem alive. It was like he was the only man allowed to exist in that place.
It was a picturesque sight that none but the weeds could witness.
Jamie then picked up his things to travel his way back home. The hoe that is full of dirt, and yet still as good as new, is Jamie’s greatest material treasure. It was the most expensive possession that he managed to buy using his own money.
The poor man only managed to buy such a precious tool after he almost tired himself to death. His regular farming job wouldn’t let him save much, so he could only count on his part-time jobs to earn his needed share of such a luxurious item.
This day might not be as productive as his other days, but a little distraction like that woman is also good for him.
Anastacia Salvatore. It was a unique and old-fashioned name but has a nice ring on it. However, since she is like a ghost and so is her memory, thinking more about her won’t do any good for the tired Jamie.
The sweaty man smiled as his stomach made loud noises. He is always a big eater and the dark sky is his only indicator that it is time to stop his job and eat his meals. A watch was never owned by him or any of the members of his family.
They have a clock at home that can only be used by those who stay behind.
Of course, bringing a wall clock to the farm is just the silliest thing to do. Jamie is not stupid enough to do it.
His siblings cooked their meager dinner and are now awaiting his return to eat the meal before them. They might not be the most blessed family in the world, but his heart is at peace knowing that they are able to live on three meals a day.
He is but a simple man who sees simple things as the greatest glory of life.
The man calmly whistled as he walked on his way home. His sister mentioned that they would be feasting on a grilled fish that was caught by their other sibling.
Jamie almost drools as he imagines the fresh fish and the spicy sauce waiting on its side. His sister is a good cook and he is more than sure that the ginger, onion, garlic, and black pepper will be overflowing as they enhance the taste of the fish.
He is wearing a stoic face and yet the imaginary smell of the lemon grass that is accentuating the image of the fish is making him walk on clouds.
The brute had already forgotten the existence of the woman who touched him indiscriminately. Her image became bleak until the yellow dress once again showed itself to him.
Anastacia Salvatore is prettily sitting inside the waiting shed.
Jamie saw her from the distance and it made the man stop walking instantly. He is now contemplating if he would approach Anastacia or if he should walk around the shed to escape her all at once.
Time passed like there is nothing in the world but just them. It would have been perfect if the woman had been aware of the existence of the man in the distance.
If Jamie was looking for a peaceful future, then he would absolutely turn around and walk in the paddy fields instead of the neat road just to escape the unwanted attention of the woman.
However, good old Jamie is aware of the situation that Anastacia is facing. Their town is just a simple place with simple people. They don’t have any tourist destinations and so inns or hotels won’t be available for sudden visitors.
He saw how Anastacia massaged her feet and figured that the woman had definitely walked around the town to look for a place to stay.
No one would entertain a suspicious girl like her, and most of the people in their town are wary of people who come from the city. Some may call it discrimination, but the locals wouldn’t change their minds that easily since they had already seen the worst of them.
Almost all of the people who visit them from the city are vain creatures who only know how to complain about how plain and boring their place is.
Of course, it was an insult to all of the locals since the place that they are referring to is their hometown.
It might not offer much, but the land that they tilt and the trees that bore the fruit that they eat are the wonders of life for them. Insulting the plainness of the land they were born on, is the same as insulting their roots.
Jamie has the same mindset, and yet he can’t bear the thought of letting Anastacia sleep under that shed.
He is not the gentlest type of man, and some might even say that he is a thug disguised as a farmer. Well, Jamie is well aware that it was his fault for being so unsociable, but it doesn’t matter as long as his conscience is clear and he will be able to bring food to the table.
It should have been easy for him to ditch Anastacia, but an action that even he couldn’t understand just suddenly made its way into his mind.
The sweaty and rugged man is now on his way to the shed where the woman is waiting. His eyes were never distracted as he looked at the woman that was currently hugging her knees. She looks immaculate and pitiful at the same time.
Now that he was only a few meters away from him, Jamie noticed that Anastacia’s bright smile could no longer be seen on her face. It might have been crazier if she had been smiling alone, but that melancholy on her face triggered another hidden sensation inside the man.
Jamie’s protective instinct is always at its peak when it comes to his siblings, but Anastacia is letting him evolve to the next level.
“Come.”
The man, who is trying his best to act cool despite what happened in the afternoon, grabbed Anastacia’s bag and told her to follow him.
He wanted to say more but his brain was not letting him think even another word. The mere presence of the woman before him took the remaining brain cells that he had. It was almost nonexistent in the first place, so Jamie automatically turned ON his Auto Mode just to complete the task that he gave to his own damn self.
A big man and a pink suitcase don’t match at all.
Jamie is not even aware that the woman behind him is laughing silently at the combination that is the least compatible. Just a minute ago and she was already ready to admit the fact that the dark sky would be her constant sight for the night.
A tiring day after her little escapade and Anastacia does not need a doctor to confirm that she is tired and sore all over.
Her feet are full of blisters and her muscles are screaming no more as she massages them. Going back to the bus stop would be impossible for the night. Even Anastacia herself doesn’t know why she is in that place.
Her mind had been drifting away and away due to the happiness of her newly-gained freedom, and so, her body moved on its own and brought her to that barren town.
All she saw was a field filled with nothing but dry land. Of course, she had no idea that it was not the planting season yet, but the hope that she had of seeing a bountiful harvest was gone like the wind after seeing the view before her.
It was like the first spring of hope that was instantly gone.
Though the presence of the man right before her made the woman trust humanity once more. Anastacia had no idea why she approached Jamie that afternoon. A single woman and a man with a body that is twice as big as hers.
Walking away might be the best choice, but her decision to chase the man and even tease him a bit was a disaster that she didn’t want to think about.
Anastacia knew that she had made a not-so-good first impression and yet the man named Jamie Gray still approached her like that. She was not an i***t to trust a stranger like him, and a man at that, but her sense of danger seemed to have turned off when it came to the muscular brute before her.
She felt a little sense of comfort after seeing his broad and muscular back that had been tanned because of hard work.
It was as if Jamie was someone that could be trusted even without knowing who he really was. Should she be found dead tomorrow like a butchered animal, then Anastacia needed to leave a note saying that she could no longer charge such regret to experience.
Being a city girl, she was taught not to be vulnerable to frauds or scams, and not to follow strangers. Yet, here she is, right after sunset with a man that she had just met in a paddy field.
Though, for the woman who has nothing but her suitcase and a little backpack, being strangled by her fetish can’t be considered bad at all.
Most might call her a lunatic, but her hidden love for pure raw strength was unleashed when she saw Jamie’s way of tilting the field. It might be the product of her childhood wish to be able to defend herself from the people that are trying to control her.
A deep sigh came out of Anastacia’s mouth as she looked forward to the long road ahead of them.
It was only the first day and here she was already choosing the hard way every single time.
