Chapter 8: The Wine Was Drugged
The two bodyguards spoke in a formal tone, "Miss Ning, President Fu asked us to personally escort you back. So, Miss Ning, if you please!"
The two towering bodyguards made a gesture of invitation.
Vivien Eipstein glanced outside; it was only around one o'clock in the morning, the peak time for the bar's liveliness.
"But, my friends are still inside. I want to go find them first..."
The two tall bodyguards bluntly replied, "Miss Ning, it would be best if you came with us."
Their implication was clear enough.
Vivien Eipstein was not pleased, "I came here with my friends. If I leave, at least I should tell them. What if they get worried and call the police when they can't find me?"
"Besides, my bag and phone are still inside. Could you let me go in and get them?"
One of the bodyguards said to Vivien Eipstein, "Miss Ning, we can go in and fetch your belongings for you."
Vivien Eipstein firmly refused, "No, my friends don't know you. How could they trust strangers with my things? How about this, you come in with me..."
She pleaded pitifully, "There are very important items in my bag, and on my phone as well..."
Seeing her so pitiful, the two bodyguards finally relented and accompanied her inside to retrieve her belongings.
With her small stature, flanked by two nearly two-meter-tall giants, the crowd automatically parted to make way for them.
Finally, Vivien Eipstein found her good friend.
Cathy Jerome, seeing Vivien Eipstein return in different clothes, squeezed next to her, "Didn't your new husband just take you away? Why are you back?"
Vivien Eipstein pulled Cathy Jerome aside, "Find out who drugged my drink tonight. I need to know who it was. They have some nerve, daring to mess with me."
Cathy Jerome stared at Vivien Eipstein in shock, "You mean, someone drugged your drink?"
Vivien Eipstein nodded.
Cathy Jerome's eyes widened, "Then...?"
Vivien Eipstein sneered, "It benefited my cheap husband, that's all!"
"Tsk..."
Cathy Jerome laughed, "I thought you had a romantic encounter."
Vivien Eipstein sighed, "Well, what can I do? It's troublesome being married. Remember to help me investigate. I'm going home now."
Cathy Jerome said, "When did you become so obedient? That's not like you."
Her best friend knew her character well.
Vivien Eipstein lifted Cathy Jerome's chin, "What are you thinking! We're getting our marriage certificate tomorrow. If I don't get enough sleep, I'll look terrible in the photos. I'm going home now..."
The two giant bodyguards were still watching her closely.
Could she afford to dawdle?
Cathy Jerome waved at Vivien Eipstein, "Go, go, get out of here..."
On the way home, Vivien Eipstein called Herbert Grantham.
"Husband, I'm going home now. Can you let your two bodyguards go back?"
Vivien Eipstein tried to sound as sweet as possible, thinking men usually liked that.
Who knew if Herbert Grantham would buy it?
Herbert Grantham simply said, "Speak normally."
"Tsk..." He didn't fall for it.
Vivien Eipstein said to Herbert Grantham, "You don't think I'd run away, do you? That's why you have these giants watching me?"
Herbert Grantham replied, "They will ensure you get home safely, and then they will leave."
Vivien Eipstein said, "Alright, then. See you at the Civil Affairs Bureau at nine tomorrow."
Herbert Grantham: "See you tomorrow."
Vivien Eipstein hung up and clicked her tongue.
Tomorrow, she would be legally married. She would be a married woman.
She never expected to get married in such a haphazard manner.
Her mind was still a bit fuzzy from the alcohol, but she smiled.
This game, who would win and who would lose, was yet to be seen.
