Then I saw one of the medical staff approach nervously and hand something to Ronan. It was Cade, the little boy wrapped in a blanket and clearly unconscious but seemingly unharmed. Ronan took him carefully and held him against his chest protectively, and I felt a massive wave of relief wash over me so strongly that my knees went weak.
Cade was safe. Ronan had him. That was the most important thing right now, more important than my own escape or anything else. As long as that kid got home to Sloane and Kade safely, the rest of us could deal with whatever consequences came later.
