I felt a cold liquid on my face jolting me awake, the memories of what happened before I passed out came rushing in, making the dull ache in my heart to turn into a sharp ache. I had watched my mate make another woman Luna right in front of me, the pain was just too much that I passed out. I had wished that I would just die from there and never wake up but the moon goddess refused to acquiesce to my request.

“Rise and shine b***h” The venomous voice of Sue sounded in my ears, pulling my eyes open. I was in a dimly lit room with my hands and legs tied up vertically, A few guards were present along with Alpha Rick and Sue. The rope that tied me up was extremely tight and it gnawed at my skin painfully.

Alpha Rick walked forward and placed his hands around Sue's waist and with a mocking smirk said, “How was your sleep mutt?”

I didn't say a word, I just stared at them with a dead feeling in my eyes. I felt numb, dried of tears and energy, as far as I was concerned the mate bond between Rick and I was dead. I no longer felt any emotions.

“As much as I want to punish you for disrupting the Luna's coronation, there's something I want to address first. Ruby, step forward” He continued.

My eyes widened as I saw Ruby's petrified figure step into the light, I did not notice her earlier because she stood in the dark corner of the room.

“Dang! Do you think I would not know that you gave this wretch food everyday during her punishment and told her about the coronation at the townsquare?” he asked her.

Ruby immediately fell to her knees and held Alpha Rick's legs, “I apologize for going behind your back, alpha Rick, please forgive me” she begged repeatedly.

My heart ached even more seeing her beg, afterall she was just trying to help me. I would hate for her to get punished because of me.

“Please forgive her, she's was only trying to help me, please” I spoke for the first time since I woke up, my voice was cracked and barely audible.

“She's an accomplice in the disruption of an important occasion in the pack. She needs to be punished” Alpha Rick said nonchalantly.

“Please, punished me instead. I'll take her her punish, just let her go” I pleaded.

Sue's eyes brightened at the mention of me taking the punishment for Hailey, she smirked and said, “If you insist… Ruby you can leave but your service to the Alpha house ends here, you are to leave the pack and never return”

“Thank you, thank you” Ruby got up and thanked them profusely before sending me a grateful yet apologetic look and leaving hastily.

“You are so eager to play the hero and you don't even know what your or her punishment is, such foolishness” Alpha Rick taunted as he walked around me. I remained blank, staring into nothingness, I refused to give him the satisfaction of seeing me broken.

“What do you think my Luna, what punishment should we give her?” he asked Sue.

“Blashemy against the alpha and disruption of important pack activities, twelve whips should do” Sue suggested with a sick smile.

“And for her accomplice crime?” he asked again.

“Let's make it a total of twenty” she said.

Alpha Rick turned to look at the guards and said, “You heard your Luna”

A tall bulky guard step up with a long horsewhip, he had a nasty snare plastered to his face like I was his worst enemy. He didn't waste time to raise the whip high and send it across my back inciting a scream from me.

“Ahhhhhh” my skin burned, it felt like a thousand needles was buried in my back. Black spots littered my vision and I felt lightheaded, I couldn't even fall asleep because the pain made me wide awake. Without giving me a break, he slashed again at me. My body trembled and felt hot liquid run down my back, the pain was so unbearable that my screams was an understatement. Alpha Rick and Sue stood together and watched me in amusement as if I was a clown performing at a carnival.

With every whip, I felt like I lost a bit of my sanity. My eyes were sealed shut and I had metallic taste in my mouth, compared to my rough childhood, this was way worse. I have never this amount of pain in my life. My head was blank and I struggled to stay conscious, it amazed me that I didn't just die from the pain even after so many whips. The moon goddess must be bent on me living.

At some point I couldn't scream anymore, I could only grunt and groan, my eyes continuously rolled backwards. Heck, I couldn't even count the whips. Ten minutes later the whips stopped coming, my back felt like a freshly butchered meat and my breathing was ragged. I wanted to die so much but it wasn't forthcoming. I was miserable.

“Thank you, you did well” I heard Alpha Rick say probably to the guard.

“Fiona, this is just a warning to think twice before disrespect me or your Luna. From now henceforth, you will work under Luna Sue and tend to her needs, any slight disobedience attracts a punishment that will make you wish you were dead instead. Understood?” Alpha Rick instructed. I didn't reply, I couldn't reply, I was half dead.

“Understood?” he asked again, his voice a little sterner.

I forced the last strength in me to say, “Yes alpha Rick” fresh blood poured out from my mouth from my retching empty stomach.

How funny that I dared to think that my life would only get better when I met my mate over a week ago. Now I wished I never came to this pack or met him at all.
