Chapter One đș
âGrrr⊠Grrr⊠GrrrâŠâ
The noisy alarm rang.
Emma groaned while stretching, and just then Lilly crawled onto her hand, rubbing her soft fur all over her.
In an instant, Emma was fully awake.
Wearing her purple flip-flops, she walked to her wardrobe to pick an outfit for the day. After a few minutes, she settled for a very cute purple top and blue jeans.
Emma is a 23-year-old graduate who lives aloneâwell, she still has her mom and younger brother, but they donât live with her. She lost her dad some years back.
She has always hoped to work at a tech firm, but she has never been lucky.
She has written several application letters to different firms, but all to no avail.
Still, she never stopped checking her email, always hoping for a reply.
She is lucky to have an amazing best friend known as Kiki.
Kiki is the complete opposite of Emmaâyou can call them âimproper fractions.â Kiki is loud and energetic, while Emma is calm and reserved. You could say they donât match, but somehow, they make the best of friends.
It was during one of her job-hunting days that Emma found Lilly on the highway, and ever since then, Lilly has been family.
Lilly wouldnât stop meowingâshe was hungry.
After taking care of âthe queen,â Emma finally had time for herself.
It was a Sunday morning, so she decided to check her emails.
âHmm⊠a notification from R&H? What if they rejected me?â she thought aloud.
Nevertheless, she clicked on it.
In the next second, the room was filled with screams.
âI got the job!â she shouted, beaming with smiles, completely forgetting that her cereal was getting cold.
Instantly, she called Kiki to share the good newsâonly to find out that Kiki also had news.
đ âHey girllll!â Kiki screamed the moment Emma picked up.
âïž âI got the job!â
đ âI got promoted!â
They both spoke at once.
âOkay, you go first,â Emma said.
âI just got promoted, girl!â Kiki said excitedly.
âAnd I just got a job at R&H Tech World!â
âThis calls for celebration!â Kiki said with excitement.
âYeahâŠâ
âSo thereâs this new spot that just openedâtrust me, youâll love it.â
âHope itâs not clubbing?â Emma asked.
âBefore nko? See, girl, we just got elevated! This calls for celebration!â
âI know, but there are better ways to celebrate. What happened to dinner, brunch, or even ice creamââ
âOh please, Emma, you are not a baby. You need to loosen up.â
âJust a few glasses wonât hurt, and besides, itâs the weekend.â
âAs you know, Iâm resuming tomorrow and I donât want to be late, so dear Kiki, Iâm not going.â
âBut girl, a glass wonât hurt. We can leave early so you can still prepare for work.â
âMe too, I have work. Letâs do this just once, please, Emma baby.â
âOh Kiki, youâre so impossible⊠okay fine. But one glass and we are out.â
âDeal, girl! Deal!â
âIâm going to pull up later, so be ready. Bye, Emma.â
And just like that, the line went dead.
âSuch an impossible girlâŠâ
âOh my, I need to pick an outfit for work tomorrow. Itâs my first dayâI need to look smart.â
After searching for a while, she finally found a good place, bought some outfits, and returned home.
9:35 PM
âHey girlâŠâ
âHoly s**t, Kiki! Canât you knock?â
âKnock?â she asked, laughing. âOh please, this is also my houseâand donât forget I have spare keys.â
âSo girl, I brought a full box of clothes to pick from. Letâs start!â
âAnd I brought Lillyâs favorite treats!â
âWait⊠are we still going? Itâs past 9 and I need to sleep.â
âOh Emma, we talked about this already. Donât spoil the moodâcome, let me glam you up.â
After trying several outfits, Emma finally wore a short red dress that fit her perfectly, bringing out her hidden curves.
She paired it with black heels, and her hair was styled in soft bouncy waves.
Kiki, the star of the day, wore a red flared short dress with gold heels and a matching gold bag.
They both looked breathtakingâperfectly styled.
âOh Kiki, this dress is too short. Iâm not comfortable.â
âMadam, the Uber is here. Letâs go. Itâs not like youâre naked.â
Tipsy Club
The room was filled with loud music and colorful shining lights.
The clean marbled floor reflected the glow. Girls were dancing, and the air was thick with the smell of alcohol.
âKiki, letâs go!â
âI canât hear you! Just vibeâI need to say hi to a friend!â
And just like that, she was gone.
Left alone, Emma had no choice but to find an empty bar seat.
âA glass of wine, please.â
Sipping her wine, she couldnât help but regret coming to the club.
She was alone⊠and couldnât even find Kiki.
Then she saw him.
Tall. Cute. Unapologetically stunningâlike a semi Greek god.
He gave her a breathtaking smile, and she found herself returning it.
Embarrassed, she looked awayâbut when she peeked again, he was still staring.
He was tempting, but she tried to distract herself with her phone.
Soon, she noticed him talking to a waiter⊠and then the waiter started walking toward her.
âExcuse me, maâam. The man over there asked me to give you this.â
On the tray was a bottle of expensive champagne and a note.
âCan I have your contact?â
She looked upâhe was smiling.
Then he winked.
Her heart skipped.
âTell him to come get it himself⊠or forget about it.â
The waiter nodded and left.
âWhy did I do that?â she muttered. âEmma⊠itâs not like you donât like him.â
She couldnât even bring herself to look up again.
Moments later, she smelled a strong, rich cologne.
âHey,â he said with a smile.
âUmm⊠hi.â
âI wanted to get your contact, but youââ
âEmma, letâs go!â
Kiki suddenly appeared and dragged her away.
She didnât even get his name.
Deep down, she was annoyedâbut she kept quiet.
The Next Dayđ
âWelcome to R&H Tech World. Iâm Esty, your senior supervisor. Feel free to ask me anything.
âHere is your deskââ
âThe boss is here.â
Instantly, everywhere went silent.
Curious, Emma turned to lookâ
âand froze.
âYou?â
