Chapter 25 I called Ryan on the way to class, praying he’d answer. Best case scenario he’d just say I was suffering from overactive dreams. But he didn’t answer my call. At the voicemail beep, I left him a message, trying to keep the panic from my voice. “Hi, Ryan, sorry to call. Umm, I’m heading into my chemistry exam, so if you call me back I won’t answer, but can we talk today? Or send me a text? Please?” I didn’t want to go into any more detail. My brain was refusing to believe that Avanic was a front company for the CIA, much less that Ryan had landed on their radar—but if that were true, I had to count on the possibility that they were monitoring his phone.
