Emma
“A marriage contract?” I repeated in disbelief.
“Yes, you are to act like my bride for just a year. If you agree to this and sign the contract, I’ll write off everything you owe me.” He said with a satisfactory smile on his lips.
“Tsk,” I scoffed. I could not believe his audacity, first, he abducted me, and then showed up at my work, ambushed me, and now was proposing this ridiculous arrangement.
Why would he even think that I’d want to get married at all and even more, to him? The last time I dedicated myself to a marriage, I ended up regretting my decisions, that’s why I was here.
“No, I won’t marry you,” I blurted out clearly to his face.
“I will find your money and pay you back, but I’m never going to marry you.”
Lucian looked taken aback, and I could tell he didn’t have so much experience being rejected.
Slowly, his brows creased into a deep frown as he stared at me, but just then his expression suddenly changed into a malicious smirk, “I’ll let you think it over. You have a week to make your final decision or pay me back the ten million dollars.” He said, raising his hand and one of his security details approached me and handed me his business card.
“I’ll be expecting your call,” Lucian said and walked away.
Immediately he left, I panicked even more. I couldn’t possibly raise ten million dollars in a week, what was I going to do?
At that point, my senses suddenly returned. Even if I was to pay back in a week, a huge chunk of my salary was already going to the bank.
My thoughts were running wild, I needed to get home and think this over, but as soon as I arrived home, my phone suddenly chimed and I quickly pulled it out to see a message from an unknown number.
Hesitantly, I opened the message thinking it was from Lucian but immediately I read the contents, my hand weakened and the phone fell to the ground.
How did he find me? I was hoping this was some sort of prank, but just then, my phone suddenly rang. My hands trembled as I carried it and with hesitation answered,
“Hello?” There was a brief silence on the other end of the line, taunting me until I heard his voice,
“Hello Emma,” he replied in a smug tone. My brows suddenly snapped tightly together. It’s been three years since that night and Adam’s voice still made my skin crawl.
“What do you want?” I asked, my voice filled with fear and irritation.
“I’ll be seeing you soon,” Adam said vaguely and hung up.
Gritting my teeth in annoyance, I tossed my phone away in anger. At that point, everything I’d tried to move on from three years ago, suddenly returned. I wanted him to pay, I wanted them to suffer for what they did to me.
In the frenzy, an idea suddenly crossed my mind and a smirk plastered on my face. I finally found a way to get my revenge on them.
After a quick thought, I pulled out Lucian’s business card and gave him a call. I needed someone in a high position to help me get my revenge, someone who could protect me on my path of revenge.
Immediately the phone rang, and he picked up as if he had been waiting for my call,
“Have you made up your mind?” He asked,
“I want to meet up,” I said firmly.
He didn’t argue or press on, and just simply restated “I’ll send over a car.”
After a few minutes, a black Rolls Royce pulled over in front of my building. With no hesitation, I hurriedly entered the car and after a short drive which I was blindfolded the entire car ride there, we finally arrived at our destination.
I was a little taken aback when I saw his luxurious estate and could not help but wonder who he really was.
I was led to the luxurious living room and made to wait for him.
After some time, I looked up to see Lucian at the top of the stairs, staring down at me. He looked quite different from how I’d seen him earlier. He had changed into a casual turtle neck and pants and had his hair set framing his perfectly sculpted face.
I gazed at him in allure and quickly shook my head, dismissing those thoughts.
“Do you have my money, Ms …”
I remained silent for a while, thinking over my decision, and then looked up at him, my mind made up, “I will accept your deal. I will get married to you for a year as you want, but you must do something for me in return.” I said, staring intently at his face.
“I need you to protect me.”
Lucian stepped closer to me and then his lips parted into a smile.
“Greg” he snapped his fingers, calling one of his guards. The man handed me a document and turning my gaze towards Lucian, his gaze remained fixed on me,
“You can go through the contract.”
Reluctantly, I grabbed the document and went through the conditions. Ensuring that everything was in order, I closed it and glanced up at him,
“Will you accept my conditions when I sign this?” I asked with a serious gaze.
“I always protect what is mine,” Lucian’s firm voice returned and I could feel my cheeks flared up.
“Alright, but one more thing,” I said and Lucian looked at me with a tired gaze.
“Just sign everywhere that requires a signature on the paper,” he said, handing me a pen.
I was intrigued by his eagerness to marry me so quickly, and knew whatever his reasons were, he needed me just as much as I did him. This gave me a boosted confidence that I could get him to do anything I needed. Playing with the top of the pen, I was about to sign my signature but suddenly paused.
“Before I sign this, I need to do something first,” I said and closed the file, a dangerous glimmer in my eyes.
“What is it?” Lucian asked and a mischievous smile beamed on my face,
“A visit to my dear husband.”
