Meeting again

To my astonishment, when we returned from our lunch break , everyone had already gone back to work . Damn it! We were already late yet our boss had made it clear that with the new big boss coming today , anyone making a stupid mistake would lose their job. And here we were.
“ Where have the two of you been?” his hoarse voice cut through the noise making me flinch as we stepped into our work area. I thought we had survived his previous insults , but I was wrong.
“ The devil incarnate .” Ham whispered into my ear just loud enough for me to hear . I could not believe it. Even in this serious moment, he found a way to make me laugh. That was Ham for you, never serious , always a joker.
We are at the verge of losing our jobs but still he got a chance to create amusement...anyway I would not deny that is one of the reasons , I Love him for a best friend so much.
With a grim expression, the boss moved swiftly towards us , eyes narrowing. I felt frozen , glued to the floor.I could imagine what he had in store for us .
I had always tried to stay out of his bad books , but given our history , this was not looking good.
“ How many times have I told you to get here on time? ” he thundered attracting the attention of the other workers , who paused their tasks to stare at us.
“ The t-” I began
“ JUST SHUT UP !!!” he snapped , cutting me off .
Damn it ! , I stared at him wide eyed sensing that this was not just like all those confrontations we have had...this is worse than that.
The boss turned away from me towards Ham who looked surely as tense as I was. All this was because of that Stranger hunk's confrontation. If it wasn't him ,then I would be back to work in time and therefore I couldn't be in such a messy entirely.
“ Go to work ” The boss ordered Ham.
Ham,looked confused . I thought we were in this together. So how come he let him and not me .
“ What !!! Why are you letting me go to work and not the both of us ?" Ham asked immediately. Of Course I expected that from him.
You know he is my best friend , he never lets me stay in any kind of danger without having to do the best that he can do to help.
“ Excuse me, who gave you permission to utter such nonsense? The boss barked .“I think I know your problem. Just because your w***e Girlfriend isn't going with you.”
” She is not a w***e plus how many times do I have to tell you that the two of us are not sleeping together.” Ham yelled at the boss.
“ Ooh, I see you can even fight for her.” the boss said , smirking .“But my decision is final...unless you want to go with her. Then fine. ” He began to move back towards his office.
After a few steps , he turned towards us saying ;
“ Arabella Means, I need you in my office now '' And just like that, he disappeared , leaving the rest of the workers to return to their tasks .
“ Let's go together” Ham said , grabbing my hand. What the hell!
“ Don't start , Bella . I -
“No buts , Ham . This is my problem and I will solve it alone . Don't forget you have a mother and sister depending on you. What happens if you lose your job too?“i said , looking him dead in the eye.
“ But -” I cut him off yet another time .
“ No buts, Ham , this is my problem .”
“ Just head to work without saying a word .” I say . I didn't give him any chance to respond since I disappeared towards the boss's temporary office.
When I reach the door , I hesitated before deciding to knock . Just when I was about to do so , something unusual caught my attention . I could tell that there was more than one person Inside.
At least I could be assured he would not do anything to me. I knocked and he told me to get inside . I slowly opened the door to get in. The boss rose with his usual wicked smile but then my eyes fell on someone else with his wicked smile coming around. But then there was someone else.
Wait ,that physique,those sharp clothes ... are so familiar. Before I could figure out who he it was , he turned around facing me ...the stranger Hunk !! What was he doing here in the first place? My heart almost stopped .
My entire body tensed b. Every nerve in me screamed in an alarm. He stood there , calm, dangerous and impossibly in control.
I could not speak despite all attempts that I made. I could not move. The silence stretched between us , heavy and suffocating.
“ Big boss, she is the one I told you about." My boss said to the hunk stranger.
What!!! You mean ? ..oh no, if that is how things were , Bella just knows you are jobless right now. Based on all the Insults we threw at him with Ham , he was going to fire me and even maybe take me to prison. Oh God, help me not to get to all that.
“ You can leave me to have a word with her.” the stranger Hunk said to my boss who moved out obediently leaving just the two of us all alone . I instantly felt tensed up. Bella...this is how your life would be forever.
