Chapter Twelve
~Calypso~
I take a deep breath as I feel my body retreat to normal. The beasts around me do the same. I can see men, women, and children eager that I am in their presence.
When a young boy about 7 years old walks up to me. I can smell he is the next Alpha, and I see fear in everyone's eyes as he boldly approaches me. Seraphine attempts to reach out and stop him, but I pick my hand up in warning.
I kneel down to be at his same level which makes some of the women gasp in response. I can feel he will be a strong worrier. One that I would have fight by my side.
" Hello, little wolf" my beast speaks and a grin spreads across my teeth reveling my fangs.
He bows before me and asks if he can escort me through their territory. I can feel his instincts wanting to keep a close eye on me in protection of his pack.
My beast looks at him in agreement as we stand and I follow him toward a well lit fire. With run down homes in a circle surrounding it.
I can see my mother's eyes watching in the dark as we approach, and I see them flicker in relief when she finally sees me. The little wolf is leading beside me, and the rest of the pack follows shortly behind us.
My mother stands to walk up to me. When the boy stands infront of me, blocking her, in warning. She stops in her steps when my father passes us to join her side.
I approach my parents and my mother wraps her arms around me and she begins asking if I'm OK. I feel my beast cringe a bit at her touch.
I look around, and demand the pack to leave.
Seraphine and the little wolf stay. I ask them and my parents to take a seat on the logs that surround the fire. And my beast begins to pace, in the camp fires light, attempting to figure out where to start.
My beast begins to speak through me
"How could you restrain me?" I roar at Seraphine.
Everyone flinches at my sound except the little wolf, and I flash a little smile at him proud of his bravery.
Seraphine begins to open her mouth when I bark at her not to speak.
"Who knows?" I finally ask.
"No one" Seraphine responds and then pauses.
"Except...." she goes on.
"Your birth mother, your parents, and now my whole pack"
"And my sister" I respond as statement, but Seraphine perceived it as a question.
Seraphine is looking at me confused then says
"She is dead"
My eyes flash at Seraphine in warning.
"And Gretchen?" I address my father.
"Taken" he responds.
"By who?" My beast, unable to deny our need to bring our friend to safety.
Seraphine responds
"Since the death of our leader" my sister "beasts everywhere have divided, and no longer follow our laws. Loyal soldiers to the crown have been dispatched everywhere and are attempting to crack down and recover any humans taken…"
"Who took her?" I cut Seraphine off.
"A coven of vampires. They have been turning humans trying to gain numbers in attempt to defy and take control before a new leader is crowned." Seraphine speaks quickly.
My beast roars at the thought of my birth right being taken. And I roar with her at the thought of my best friend becoming the undead.
I feel my sister listening in to my every emotion telling me to reveal her. I listen to my sister's command and stop my pacing. I look at Seraphine over the fire dead in the eye and say
"Rory is alive"
~ Anora~
My stomach ached as I drove Caly's truck back to my home. One of my best friends missing and another literally fainted right infront of me from the stress of it all. I feel like I can faint right now. My stress combined with the lack of sleep made me want to cry as I got closer to my house. Knowing there was no one to go home to and nothing I could do for either of my friends.
I pull in and head inside my house. When I get inside I kick my shoes off, and plopped myself on my bed. I lay there almost all night trying to fall to sleep, but it never came.
When my phone rang. I jumped up to see who was calling and it was an unknown number. I wouldn't normally answer an unknown call this late, but with Gretchen missing now just over 24 hours I didn't hesitate.
"Hello?" I say eager to hear a response.
"Anora..." it was Gretchen.
"Oh my god Gretchen, where have you been? I have been so worried?" I respond.
"I know I should have called, I've just had the best time of my life. And I was just so caught up in it all"
I was a little peeved for a moment, but Gretchen was crazy sometimes. She had never done this before, but it wasn't out of her character to get caught up having a good time.
"Well, I'm happy you're OK! Now I'll actually be able to sleep tonight. Have you called Caly? She is worried sick literally. She passed out, she was so stressed" I go on to tell Gretchen.
"No, I haven't, let's call her! I want to tell y'all everything!" Gretchen says.
The phone rings as we three way with Caly when she finally picks up.
"Hello?" Caly answers a bit irritated.
"Hey Caly, it's me and Gretchen, she's OK!" I say, with relief in my voice.
"Gretchen?" Caly questioned.
"Yeah it's me Caly sorry I know I should have called, I've just had the best time of my life. And I was just so caught up in it all" Gretchen says again, repeating exactly what she told me a little robotically.
"Tell us?" I beg.
"So while I was waiting for y'all, at that bus bench. Octavia pulled up"
"Who's Octavia" I interrupt with a doughy voice.
"She was my date. She followed the guys that took me from that party and waited for me to get out. I couldn't believe she would do that for me, I think I'm really falling for this girl."
"I'm so happy for you" I say, but Caly remained quiet.
"Yeah, I'm happy to" Gretchen goes on " I want y'all to meet her"
"When?" Caly asks, before Gretchen could even finish her sentence.
"How about right now, I'm outside your house, Anora?" Gretchen says to my surprise.
