Chapter Sixteen
~Ambrose~
I run as fast as I can, but I am still far off. I can see the car with my mate speeding away as my heart drops. My legs are still torn from being attacked for trying to enter the pack territory. As I approach closer, I see two women come running out of a house. One scent is obviously a wolf.
I turn to my human form and run towards them. The wolf stands at attention, ready for my approach, also in her human form.
I identify my self as the royal guard and demand they tell me where they have taken her. My brother approaches along with other wolves from the pack we encountered.
My brother comes to my side while the others go to stand behind the woman in front of me. When I realize she is their Alpha.
The alpha seemed hesitant to answer.
"Speak" I demand in authority.
"I'm confused as to why the royal guard is concerning themselves" she finally responds.
My body stiffens with pure anger. I feel myself begin to approach her in a threatening way. When my brother pulls me back and steps in between us.
Charles addresses her
"We are not here under orders from the royal guard. The beast we are looking for is bonded to my brother. We wish her no harm. Please provide us with any information you have"
The alpha considers my brother's words. When she looks over his shoulder to me still fully enraged.
"She was taken forcefully. We do not know the identity of her attackers" She finally decides to answer.
When a little voice from behind her says
"I do"
She parts to show a young girl her knees shaking. A human. She has streaks of dried tears across her face and is looking around in fear as all eyes point to her.
I approach her, my eyes demanding her to answer.
"I don't know what they are now, but they were once my friends. It's was our best friend Gretchen and her new girlfriend. And the man that grabbed her is Caly's ex boyfriend."
My heart breaks. Was that why she left me when I was so close? I know she had to have felt me coming. Did she choose him over our bond? Was their bond greater than ours? But it didn't matter, I knew I would never stop hunting her.
"Could you take me to them?" I ask almost in a whisper.
"I don't know where they are, but I can take you to Gretchen's and James's homes" she nods.
I can hear her worry and know she is as concerned as I am for my mates well being.
We took her car because I didn't want to wait for my brother to retrieve his Jeep. I asked to drive and she obliged.
We jumped in the car and she gave me direction. I drove to both locations, but her scent was no where to be found. I felt defeated. My hands gripped the wheel so tight I could feel it crushing under my grip. I turn to the girl in the car beside me hoping she has another trail we could find.
"Please tell me you know of another place we can look?" I ask.
Her face answered my question before she could speak, and I nodded in understanding.
"Is there somewhere I can take you that you will be safe?" I asked.
Her head slugged down looking at her fists clinched in her lap.
"Back to the place you found me" she responded.
My eyebrow twitches up at her.
"I don't think that's a good idea" I say.
I can see she cares a lot for my mate, and I imagine my mate must feel the same. So I don't feel right leaving her in a place she may come to harm. She remained silent.
You shouldn't go back there. At least not for a while" I go on "you must have some family I can take you to?"
"Calypso and Gretchen are my only family" she responded.
My ears perk and I feel my foot let up on the gas from where it was glued to the floor. I look at the girl beside me and with a reassuring expression I say
"Don't worry, I will find her"
I decided to take her back to the pack territory I had entered earlier that night. I knew she would be safe there and I hoped they would have some information that would help me find Calypso.
As we pulled down the road, the wolves surrounded us and led along side our car as we approached. This time they didn't threaten my advances. I pull up to where my brother's vehicle was parked. I could see my brother standing there along side the Alpha and a few other men and women. We exit the car when I hear the human girl sigh in relief as she approaches a man and a woman along side my brother.
They both embrace her and they look her over to see if she is alright. And I feel happy I have brought her to someone that she knows. I walk up still staring at them when I realize I recognize the man she approached. As the homicide detective assigned to work with us in regards to the beast uprising in the city. Curious at how he has found himself here in this moment.
I look at my brother and he can see my pain coming back with out my mate. I ask
"Have you found anything that can help me find her?"
Charles looks to the Alpha allowing her to speak the information they gathered.
"We have a way to find her"
Adrenaline filled my veins at this news.
The need to hunt her down is overwhelming. Then the human detective approaches us. My brothers eyes flash back and forth between us as I sense he is trying to tell me something.
The Alpha begins to introduce him
"This is Matt, Calypso's Father"
My eyes quickly jerk towards my brother as I realize now what he was trying to communicate. Then I look to Matt and I smell the air around him. To confirm he is human. A werewolf can not be born of human blood, so I know then and there, this isn't Calypso's paternal father. But none the less I immediately feel a different respect towards him.
I don't know how to address myself now. Knowing I am mated to his daughter, so I move on and avoid a conversation all together.
"How will we find her?" I get straight to business.
"We have a witch that put a tracking rune on her, at a young age. She should be here soon to help us find her" Matt responds to my question to my surprise.
We impatiently waited for the witche's arrival. My beast couldn't sit still, so I paced back and forth hearing everyone murmur amongst each other. I learned the name of the pack alpha to be Seraphine, and I could here wolves whisper about the war and the loss of our leader. When I catch the sight of a wolf emerge from the woods and approach the Alpha. I listen in on their conversation hoping he is bringing useful information on finding my mate.
Seraphine welcomes him to her home.
I can hear his voice filled with authority, and I can sense his alpha presence.
"My pack, amongst others are beginning to approach. Where shall we gather to discuss our further actions?" He says, to Seraphine.
My brother's eyes flicker up to me. I can tell he has entered his royal guard mode. As we were sent here to monitor the uprisings of beasts in this area. And now we catch ourselves right in the middle of multiple packs gathering. Being a wolf myself even I know this is not a common occurrence, and I begin to question their motives.
The male alpha leaves back to relay the message. When my brother signals me to approach, so we can question Seraphine about the meaning of this.
This gathering is not illegal but highly suspicious. Since the loss of our leader, there have been whispers of groups of beasts planning a rebellion before our new leader can be appointed.
I approach Seraphine along with my brother and she knows exactly why. She stands there silent, not going to divulge any information willingly.
"Seraphine, is there something we need to know about?" Charles asks.
"Nothing of concern" she responds quickly.
Charles goes on
"You understand why we would be concerned. You can talk to us, but if you don't we will have to report this gathering you are having. And we may be ordered to look into it further. Or you could just talk to us now. I feel like we have become friends have we not ?" He asks, but she doesn't respond "If you would just simply set our mind at ease, we will let it go, but we are here under orders to prevent a war."
She looks to me as if some how I will save her when Seraphine says
"The moment we find Calypso we will explain, and you two are gladly welcome to join us in our meeting. But for now, there is only one thing I intend to focus on"
I agreed and my brother was a little hesitant but agreed as well.
It wasn't long after when a car approached down the dirt drive. It slowed down and an older woman approached out of the vehicle. It was the Witch.
