~Calypso~
We planned to meet Dr. Frankenstein in a few days at his lab in England. After he returns from his trip to China where he is researching some ancient medicines. I went back to work, and Anora would come with me every night. Just to sit at the bar and be entertained by the Sirens.
One night, right before close, the door to the club opened and it was James.
My eyes locked on him as he walked towards the bar. He sat down next to Anora where they hugged and she asked.
"Have you heard from Gretchen and Octavia lately?"
"No. It's been awhile." he answers over the music.
I became a little worried. I hadn't tried to reach out to them. I only know they have been ignoring all of Anora's attempts to contact them, and I decide I will try to ring Gretchen later. Loralie was working the bar with me, and told me I could go early.
I cleaned up a bit before I motioned for James and Anora to go. We walked out to the snowy streets. It was almost Christmas so you could see colorful lights strung on every balcony, and hear Christmas music playing in the cabs as they past.
We walked to the nearest park and took a seat on a bench. The trees lit up with White Christmas Lights that bounced of the snow turning the park into a wonderland. Anora sat in-between James and me, so we could keep her warm. The cold doesn't bother us anymore now that we are both beasts. We laughed and joked a bit. When I sense two vampires watching us from a distance. James sees them too and stands.
"I have to go" James says. "I have something for you"
He pulls a beautiful jewelry box from his pocket on the inside of his coat, and hands it to me. It was a beautiful gold necklace with the phases of the moon on it.
"Wow, James it is beautiful."
"It's not from me." He pauses "Alacard sent it. A Christmas gift to symbolize your friendship"
He looks back at the vampires watching, and leaves fast as lightening with them. I put it around my neck and Anora and I leave for home.
When we arrive, there is a red letter on my bed. I pick it up and there is nothing written on the outside. I opened it and a folded parchment paper was inside that read
"Meet me under the star. The day after the new year"
Memories of my sister came flying back to me. She had showed me something. Something from her memory. A star that never moved in the sky. Something I thought was insignificant, but I now know it is her location. She is ready to be found.
I'm confused why she wants me there after the New Year. Our brother, Magnus, is expected to be appointed our new leader on the first of the year.
Does she plan to let him take her position? I wonder. Or does she not want me by her side when she takes it for herself?
Either way angers me. I deserve to be with them no matter how it plays out. I deserve to be by their side instead of hidden away like I have been my whole life.
I throw it back down on the bed and Anora picks it up to reads it.
"What does it mean" she asks.
"It's from my sister" I say emotionless.
"What star?"
"Polaris" I respond.
"Where is that?" Anora asks with her thousands of questions.
When Loralie interrupts us as she walks into the room answering Anora's question.
"In the city of Atlantis. The City of Beasts. Where the Royal family rules, and where your brother is expected to be sworn in" she nods to me.
"Dr. Frankenstein is ready for us. It's time to leave" Loralie says. I grab the letter from Anora and toss it in the trash.
"Let's go" I say to Anora as I follow Loralie out.
"This will be the first time I'll be on a plain" Anora says a little excited behind us.
"We're not going by plain" Loralie says.
"How will we get there? " Anora asks.
"You'll see" I say, as we jump in a cab.
We drive to Manhattan. The early morning traffic started to fill the streets, and Anora fell asleep on my shoulder. We pull up to a heavily guarded Laboratory, and Anora wakes up as the cab stops. She looks outside and says
"I thought we were meeting Dr. Frankenstein in England?"
We didn't answer and just got out of the cab, Anora following us. We walk up and guards open the door. Loralie leads us inside. We enter into a white empty lobby with nothing but an Elevator. We approach as the doors open. Anora and I walked inside, but Loralie didn't follow. I stop the elevator doors as they try to close.
"Are you not coming? " I ask Loralie.
"I can't. Even though I can walk on land I'm bound to the sea, and can't leave far from my home, but you will be fine. Victor will be waiting for you on the other side" she nods as the elevator closes.
There were no buttons inside. But the elevator began to move. I could feel time and space being pushed through me. I look at my hands as they glitch in and out of reality. When the door opens and Anora falls to the ground passing out.
"Oh dear" says a man standing on the other side of the doors.
When Anora jumps up, breathing in hard threw her nose, and she says
"I'm ok" obviously now filled with adrenaline.
"Victor" he reaches his hand out to Anora, and then to me. As his eyes glance down to my necklace and back up to my eyes.
His swedish accent was thick, his hair dark blonde, and curly like a mad scientist. He was middle aged, not to talk, and he smelt human. Was this the Victor Frankenstein? I questioned to myself.
"Please come in" he says, leading us through a laboratory filled with people in white lab coats.
He takes us up a spiral stair case that led to hallway and then to a room. The door read "Dr. Frankenstein"
"Sit please" he says as he tries to clean up the messy area on his desk. His hands, full of books and papers that he drops into a drawer and then pushes it closed with his foot.
He sits down on the desk in front of us.
"So, Loralie didn't tell me much about your situation. Other than she thought I may be able to help. " Victor says.
"I am looking for a way to protect my friend. She is human, and she..." I pause. "I just want to find a way to make sure she's safe"
"And I suspect you want to keep her human whole doing so?" he asks, writing down notes.
"Of course" I say, and I feel Anora stir uncomfortably in her chair.
Victor sees this through his beady glasses and says "mhm" before he looks down.
"Well, I'm sure there is something I can do for you two. No payment necessary. I just have one question?" Victor says, as he looks back up to me.
"That artifact around your neck. Where did you get it?"
I reach my finger up and touch the full phase moon dangling in the center of the necklace and I feel a little shock. Like it's alive.
"It was a gift" I say, now questioning to myself what this maybe, and why Alacard gave it to me.
"By who? May I ask?" Victor says, very curious.
"Alacard" I say in response. When Victor laughs.
"What a sneaky little snake." He says, in response.
"That is a very special necklace. A royal artifact worn by the last reigning Lycan Queen. Long before your sister, of course" When he says this, it is the first time I realize he knows my identity.
"Lost the day the Queen lost her life to Lilith. A demon. Many many years ago." he pauses. "odd thing seeing it now. On the neck of another Lycan. It is known to have special properties, maybe you will unlock them one day." he stands letting me know he is done with our conversation.
"Well if you leave your human friend here we can discuss with her options, and let her decide for herself what she would like to do. It may take some time to develop something"
"No" I say to the insinuation that I would even dare leave Anora.
"I.." Anora speaks hesitantly.
"I would like you to go. I can make this choice for myself. " She says to me.
"Anora, I brought you here to protect you. I would never leave you like this. " I say.
"Like what" Anora interrupts me again "a helpless human? Isn't that what I am, what you want me to be?"
"Anora, that's not what I meant." not understanding why she is so angry.
"Caly, let me make choices for myself. It is nearly the New Year. You have your own path to follow. Let me follow mine" Anora says, stern to me.
When Victor interrupts
"I assure you Anora will be in the best of hands with my staff, you won't have to worry about her safety while she is here"
"Caly, you can go" Anora adds on.
Reluctantly, I eventually left.
