Chapter Ten
Summer’s sleep was dreamless. It was sensation that dragged her awake. The feeling that she was plummeting endlessly, unable to stop herself from falling. She woke gasping, clutching at Grayson.
“What’s wrong?” His words were mumbled, his eyes barely open.
She stared at him, able to clearly see him when the chamber should be in total darkness. She wanted to say ‘nothing’, but the word wouldn’t form. When he reached for the phone, sitting on the floor beside him, she placed her hand on his. “Leave it off. Don’t waste the battery.”
“Then what’s wrong? Why did you jerk awake like that?” He drew his hand out from under hers, reaching blindly for her.
“I felt like I was falling.”
His hand grazed her cheek before resting on her shoulder. “I’m sorry.”
“It wasn’t your fault.”
