AFTER THE CONFESSION

Olivia stood still her thoughts tangled

Felix remained beside her but the first time he didn’t know what to say

I should go after her Olivia finally said something breaking the silence

Felix shooks his head slightly let me

But Olivia had already started walking

They found Emily near the edge of the school grounds sitting on a low stone bench beneath a tree her bags rested beside her, untouched .she was staring at the ground her fingers tightly clasped together

Emily Olivia called softly

Emily didn’t look up at first

I’m fine she said quickly though her voice betrayed her

Felix stopped a few step behind Olivia,unsure wether to approach

Olivia sat beside Emily keeping a careful distance

You don’t look fine Olivia said gently

Emily let out a shaky breath …..I didn’t mean to interrupt I just …….I didn’t know what to say

Her voice cracked slightly on the last words

Felix lowered his gaze Emily I never meant for you to find out like this

She finally looked at him her eyes red but steady

There’s no right way for it to hurt less she said quietly.

Olivia glanced between them confusion and concern mixing in her expression what happened between you two?

A long pause followed

Emily hesitated then slowly stoop up as if the weight of sitting was too much to bear

We used to be together she said at last

The words landed heavily in the air

Olivia eyes widened slightly but she stayed silent letting Emily continue

It wasn’t just a school friendship Emily added we were …….serious. Before he transferred

Daniel exhaled slowly I didn’t tell you because I thought it was over I thought I had moved on

Emily gave a small,bitter smile maybe you did but I didn’t

The honesty in her voice made Olivia chest tighten

For a moment no one spoke

The wind moved gently through the trees carrying away the lady traces of the afternoon warmth

Finally Emily picked up her bag

I need some time she said simply

Olivia stood up as well”Emily “

But Emily shook her head

I’m not angry at you she said looking at Olivia you didn’t do anything wrong

Then her gaze shifted to Felix

I just didn’t expect to lose him twice

Without waiting for a response she turned and walked away again this time more steadily but no less broken

Olivia watched her go,het hear sinking

When Emily was finally out of sight Olivia turned to Felix

You should have told me she said quietly

Felix nodded , guilt clear in his expression “I know “

Olivia looked down at the ground trying to process everything the confession she had once dreamed of now tangled in something far more complicated I don’t know what I’m supposed to feel right now she admitted

Felix stepped closer but stopped when he saw her hesitation

I don’t want to lose you too he said softly Olivia didn’t answer immediately

Because for the first time she realized that love wasn’t just about hearing the right words

Sometimes it was about the understanding the weight those words carried and deciding what to do with them
