We were still and quiet as we drove back to town. Vic held my hand like it was a raft bobbing in high water. He commented now and then about a tree or building or cloud he saw. I commented in kind, happy the truck was automatic and not stick shift so we could hold hands easier. In a way, we were closer now than we had been the night before in bed. I parked in the back, and we were met by an agitated Greg, who was nearly crying. “I called and called.
