10: Interrogation

1166 Words
Lady of the house, Dominic Russel had no woman, it said so in the files, he sleeps with multiple but never twice, was she one of them and fall in love? The woman's gaze was cold as it wandered my body with disgust. I didn't avert my eyes, I knew women like her, they would want to intimidate or curse at you so you scurry away. " Lesley," she said after she finished assessing me. I extended my hand politely. " I'm Ashley," she didn't take it so I withdrew it. "What are you doing here?" There was a sneer on her face. Just then, we turned to the two men who just walked in, they were dressed elegantly and looked at us with curiosity, the gamma and John, I haven't met the beta in person but I read his file too, he was charming and intelligent, he is rich and a big player, his father, the former beta helped overthrow the old alpha Serbia. I exhaled to face the men, the Gamma scowled and walked past us. " I'll get the files, I think they are in his office," he said to the beta who nodded. John turned to us with a charming smile. " Ladies," He acknowledged, I smiled at him while his eyes glued to me, I swallowed thickly before opening his mouth to speak. " You must be Ashley, right?" He knitted his brows, I nodded in confirmation and he smiled. " Well, where is the Alpha," Lisle's voice echoed throughout the house, stopping John from saying whatever he was about to. "He's at work," he answered bored, the girl narrowed her gaze. " I've been calling him but he wasn't picking," she whined making an ugly face. " Does he have to? If you want to talk to him, make an appointment like the others," I chuckled at John's response and she glared at me, I averted my eyes immediately, I was supposed to be a lone weak wolf, it's easier to gain their sympathy, Lisle growled and I visibly shrunk back. " Stop it, you're scaring her," The beta growled, his growl was low but powerful, even though I wasn't pack, I could feel the weight of his authority. Lesley cussed under her breath and walked away. John turned to me. " Finally," he muttered in relief. " It's fine, you don't have to be scared of Lisle," I smiled lightly. " She's strong," he nodded. " She's a beta, she has to be," I raised my eyebrows, if she's beta are they, family? However, he answered my question before I could utter it. " She's my cousin," " I didn't know," " Let's keep it a secret," he joked as he slumped into the sofa across me. His face took on a serious expression as he enquired. " How are you feeling now?" I nodded my head. " Better, thanks to the medication the doctor gave me," I cringed in my mouth at the thought of the medicine, I hate it so I flushed it down the toilet, my wolf has always been quick to heal herself and that dagger wasn't even silver, however, I had to fake been unwell because they believe that lone or rogue wolves are slow in all we do than those in a pack. " Hmm, well, glad you are doing alright, I was hoping to talk to you," he gestured me to sit, and I did opposite of him. I wonder what he wants to say, his gaze is on me, as of trying to read me, I hate this but I try to be as composed as I can. I open my mouth to speak. " Is everything okay? Does the alpha regret letting me stay," I asked all at once, he shook his head? " Calm down. I wanted to ask if you know the people who injured you, or what they looked like," I squinted my eyebrows, why would he be interested in that. I steeled myself as I try to come up with a lie, I haven't always been a good one but I got better with time and practice. " I don't know much about them, because they were just sent," I shrugged my shoulders. " By who?" " A rogue who saw me once hunting in the woods, he took a liking to me, and ever since he's been chasing after me," I said, he had a faraway look in his blue eyes before he asked the next question. " What about your family? Pack? What happened to them?" I cast my gaze on the floor as a tear or two rolled down my cheeks. " They died in a rogue attack long ago, and I couldn't stay in the pack," I answered simply. John sighed, he's a very hard time man to read just like alpha Russel. " I'm sorry," he said but his expression didn't show that. He cleaned Invisible dust on his suit. " What is the name of your pack," " Blue howler pack," I answered smoothly. The howler pack was small on the northern coast of the world. I didn't know how Trenton knew about it but he told me I should always say that when I'm asked the name of my pack. " I haven't heard about it," he told me, " Well, it's small and almost non-existent," I said nonchalantly. " Where is it exactly?" I don't know where it is... I hesitated while his intense gaze followed my movements, my hands, and my shoulders. I opened my mouth to speak when the Gamma rushed to where we were. " It's here!" He announced showing a black file. " Did you get anything from her?" He spoke as if I wasn't there and John hissed. " Andrew!" He pointed at me but the man just shrugged " So?" John exhaled and stood up, to me he said, " Don't worry, we'll find those rogues and finish our chat later," I forced a smile and nodded, chat? Or interrogation. They didn't trust me and I needed them to. ... After the workers left the house, I spent the day exploring, the workers come for an hour to clean and prepare food. The house was big and warm like a true home, everything was first-class or antique. I was standing in front of a huge door on the second floor that had a no entry sign. I held the knob, I wanted so badly to go in there but my wolf was against it. ' Nat, stop,' she warned. ' No one is home and Dominic always comes back late,' I argued solemnly, my curiosity getting the best of me. ' No! Someone will find you,' she protested as I held the knob tighter. 'No one but me and Dominic stays in the house, remember?' I twisted the knob but a rough growl made me freeze. " What are you doing there?"
