Prologue

640 Words
Before you begin this book, please make sure you clear every concept of the mate bond you have from other novels. In the universe my werewolf novels are set in, there is no concept of rejection, and mates have no option but to continue seeing the other person once they've found them. It's a soul connection that cannot be broken so easily. Thank you.  - - - - Monica slowly opened her eyes, groaning as the bright light blinded her for a moment. There was a faint ache in her back, but everything else seemed fine. She no longer felt cold and weak, her body seemed to have adapted, or healed from the wounds she had been inflicted with. Squinting her eyes, she finally managed to see her surroundings, realizing she was lying outside a cave. Her body was completely naked, and her heart beat paced as she recalled everything that had happened. Hayes. The Cliff. Falling into the water. The mysterious, cold skinned man. She sat up, holding her head when it throbbed, as she groaned in pain. Her heart sank in her chest and her throat tightened, as she recalled the moment of her death. Or the moment she thought she'd die. Hayes, the man she gave herself up for, the man she thought would protect her, chose to save another woman over her. Over the mother of his own child. She gulped, as a tear slid down her cheek, but she angrily wiped it away. She had nothing against that girl, but she had expected Hayes to be a better father. She put her own life into danger for him, but he was too busy taking his revenge instead of taking care of her. She stood up, her legs trembling, as she staggered and fell to her knees. Her head throbbed again, as a faint memory haunted her mind. She remembered a deep, smooth voice, and the touch of cold, firm hands. Who was that man? She thought to herself, as her gaze fell onto her stomach. It seemed fine, and she placed her hand on it, sighing in relief when she heard a faint heartbeat. Her baby was fine. The man had saved her life. She waited there for a few moments, until she had properly regained her strength, and then stood up again. Monica contemplated entering the cave, but the chill that ran down her spine forbade her from it. Listening to her gut, she followed the edge of the forest for what felt like forever, before finally stumbling into a town square. A wave of nausea swept over her, and she staggered again, but before she could fall, two strong arms wrapped around her waist, holding her steady. Sparks erupted throughout her body, and she looked up, her gaze meeting that of the most handsome man she had ever seen. Her entire world seemed to stop, as she sucked in a breath, her surroundings fading away into oblivion. Electricity seemed to fizz between their bodies, as she felt a connection forming, one she knew could never be broken. "Mate." The word escaped her lips in a soft whisper, as she no longer cared about being naked in the arms of a complete stranger. "Hey," his concerned voice was music to her ears, as she found herself entranced by his presence, his scent, his touch. "Are you okay?" He asked, his perfect brows furrowed together in concern, as his gaze trailed down from her eyes, to her lips, and down to her tummy. She noticed how it did not linger anywhere, even though she was completely naked. Black dots clouded her vision, yet a soft smile stretched across her lips. Her knees went weak, and she gladly closed her eyes, letting herself collapse into the arms of her mate. - - - - - -
