Ayla's POV. The front door swung open before I could even form a thought, and my heart slammed against my ribs like it wanted to tear right through my chest. My wolf hissed and coiled tightly around me, tense and restless, warning me that danger had stepped inside. Rowan moved instantly, stepping in front of me, broad shoulders squared, fists clenching and unclenching as if he could squeeze the tension out of the air. Beck stayed close to the doorway, calm but ready, his eyes darting from Rowan to the intruder, calculating every move. Rowan’s mom had crossed the threshold into my home. My mom froze on the couch.
