As they parted at the front gate, the congressman embraced his son tightly and whispered into his ear, “Make us proud, son. Become a leader of men.” Stephen promised that he would put forth one hundred percent effort and reiterated to his father that becoming a naval officer would be the fulfillment of his life’s dreams.
