The ballroom at Buckingham Palace had been decorated in nautical tones, in keeping with the Battle of Trafalgar theme. As the orchestra played, Stephen Morrison circulated around the room. It was a pleasant ending for a very exciting day, all things considered. After arriving in London, he learned that Admiral Fisher had arranged lodging for him at the Navy Club downtown and for an admiralty car to pick him up and take him to Buckingham Palace. He had his first encounter with the king when he went through the receiving line. When he reached the monarch, his aide announced, “Lieutenant Junior Grade Stephen Morrison, United States Navy.” They shook hands, and the Edward simply welcomed him to the reception.
