After hearing they’d ventured into town without escorts, I decided not to interfere right away. I wanted to see what they’d do on their own, how far they’d go. A small part of me even wondered if they’d try to run. Not that they could ever get past my borders, but still, I was curious.
So, I left the training grounds immediately and sent word to my men in town to keep an eye on them from a distance. When I arrived, Zack, one of the guards shadowing them, updated me on everything they had done, right down to the moment they started arguing about being lost. Hearing that Ruby even considered leaving stung more than I expected. After everything I’d done to make her feel welcomed, she still saw this place as a cage.
