For the next few days, I locked myself up at home and didn't step foot outside the front door even once. Every day before the sky even lightened, John would sneak over and leave a basket of eggs and beef by my door. I never touched any of it, not even once. Kevin tried all sorts of new recipes to cook for me, bringing each dish into my room looking like he was scared to breathe wrong, desperate to apologize. I didn't give him so much as a kind look.
