As dusk thickened and darkness descended, so the evening cooled and Wally, feeling more comfortable after a brief sleep and the no longer stifling heat, made his way toward Canoe Lake. In the near distance he could see the circus setting up, towards the promenade, silhouetted against a deep red sky to the west. He turned his back on the intense activity, and made his way past the café heading towards the flats. He kept himself close to the dense shrubs, before making a dash across the road, down the side access way and into the rear court, where he settled himself into the deep shadow of the flank wall to a row of garages.
