10. A confession… A Dare…

943 Words
Enya's Point of View Truth or Dare, everything is dangerous when he is in front of me. I have to play this safely. Sandy quickly announced the rules. "You pick truth or dare. If you can't tell the truth, you have to drink. If you can't do the dare, you have to drink. Please, no lies! Don't spoil the fun!" The group shouted in agreement. Everyone seemed so excited. I forced a smile too, despite the turmoil in my mind. I just wanted to be part of them. The first few rounds went harmlessly. Rose admitted to giving a letter to a boy and getting rejected when she was just thirteen years old. Everyone laughed, and some boys even commented that the one who rejected her must have been a fool. Rose sat there with her cheeks looking like ripe tomatoes. Another guy received a dare to get on the table and sing while pretending to play a guitar. He sang an off-key song hilariously, but earned a round of applause from everyone. It was funny and I couldn't stop laughing. Everything was going smoothly. Until it was Raphael's turn. The whole table went quiet. All eyes turned to him. Raphael sat there with his usual unreadable face. He leaned back in his chair, his broad shoulders relaxed. "Truth," he said in his deep voice. Sandy's eyes instantly lit up. She didn't waste a second before asking the question. "Have you ever loved a girl, and if yes, when?" Everyone gasped and leaned forward. He got the group's fullest attention. I had no doubt that just like me, everyone thought he would say no. Raphael raised his eyes, and his gaze swept over the table. For a split second, I thought his gaze landed on me. My breath caught. "Yes…" His voice was calm, steady. Whispers and awe filled the air. "When?" someone shouted in disbelief. "Who is she?" another asked. "I began to love her a long time ago." His voice was calm as ever, his green eyes carrying a warmth that felt so foreign. Everyone exclaimed in disbelief. The cold, untouchable Raphael had someone he'd loved for a long time? And above everything, he openly admitted it? How could that be possible? Someone so unreachable as him, how could he have someone he loves? " And… I still love her," then driving everyone crazy, Raphael added. His voice was laced with a softness I had never heard from him. I sat frozen; I couldn't even believe my own ears. In my past life, I was sure that Raphael didn't love anyone. He was cruel, heartless, unreachable. He loved only himself. So how could he suddenly have a girl he loves in this life? And… why did I feel like my heart was being squeezed by those words? Before I could even think of anything, Raphael spoke again. "I was supposed to answer one question. I answered two. That's enough." Though he said it in his usual cold voice, his eyes were a little playful, so unlike my stepbrother from the past life. Everyone instantly fell silent. No one dared to push the ice prince further. But the screams in my mind didn't quiet down so easily. Who is that girl? When did he fall in love with her? Does he love her that much that he would openly admit it? Why the fu** do I care? Wait... Why does it hurt this much? I'm supposed to stay far away from him. Whoever he loves, it's none of my concern. But why do I feel otherwise? "Enya!" Before I could calm myself, it was my turn. My heart skipped a beat. I didn't dare to choose the truth. I couldn't speak it with those green eyes watching me. "Dare!" I said. The group cheered. Sandy laughed cheerfully. "Alright, your dare is a classic one. Kiss the first person who walks through the bar's front door!" "No!!!!" I yelled. My face went pale. The group exploded with excitement. "You can't say no!" "It's just for the game!" "Come on, Rep!!!" I held the glass in front of me tightly, wanting to pour some liquor into it and gulp it down. But Sandy leaned toward me. "You don't have to kiss on the lips. Just a peck on the cheeks is enough. Don't spoil the fun." Up to now, no one had escaped their turn by drinking. I felt a little guilty being the first. I looked around nervously. For a heartbeat, my eyes locked with Raphael's green ones. I froze. His eyes, usually unreadable, were burning with anger. He was furious and trying his best to control it. It was a look I knew too well from my past life. Why? Why did he look this furious? A moment ago, I definitely saw some happiness and warmth on his face. So how could he get angry in a snap? However, there was no time to dwell. The group had already pushed me toward the door, following behind me, cheering. "Do it, Enya!" "It's just a game!" My heart pounded as I walked to the entrance. I was desperately praying that whoever walked in through that door would be a kind stranger. Someone who wouldn't make me feel awkward. Then the door opened. I took a deep breath. Let's do this, Enya. You just have to peck their cheek. However, when I saw the familiar tall figure who had just entered through the door, the air drained from my lungs, and my heart stopped. It was Noah… Noah Watson! The professor who had been more than a professor to me in my past life.
