Kari paused for a beat, waiting for Dr. Patel to react. But, as always, Nina Patel didn’t prod her to continue. Her psychiatrist utilized the same interviewing techniques that the FBI used—do not respond and your subject would fill in the silence soon enough.
Thinking about the passage had kept her awake for three hours after she had gone to bed last night, and she was anxious to hear what Dr. Patel thought it meant. “I’ve been trying to decipher it, but I’m not sure what it means or why he gave it to me.”
