CHAPTER 11Kari’s cell phone buzzed. She had called Professor Burton and left a message but it wasn’t him. Although she didn’t recognize the number she answered it anyway.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Kari. It’s Sam Shiffler from the Inquirer.”
“Shiffler.” She hadn’t spoken to him since the office made her talk to him for an exposé about the shootout. “Why are you calling me directly? You know you’re supposed to clear all media calls with the media rep.”
“And hello to you too.”
“The only reason I haven’t hung up on you already is it won’t erase the digital record that you called me.”
“Nice to hear from you too.”
“Is this your cell?”
“I get it. You don’t want to be like that colleague of yours who had to admit in open court that he had tipped off one of our reporters about a search.”
