As Amanda and Rebecca moved ahead, engrossed in their discussion about science, Bel lingered back with me. "I’m really sorry about yesterday," she said, her voice sincere. "I didn’t mean what I said. You and Essel have been together for a long time... obviously he—"
"It’s okay, Bel," I interrupted, wanting to spare myself from any further hurtful comments. She had a tendency to keep talking even when she should stop. Often, her attempts to make things right only made them worse. "Let’s just move on, alright?"
