*Leon’s Point Of View*
The woman Jonah brought with him was very mysterious. I helped her get to the infirmary, but on our way there she didn't speak one single word. I turned and noticed that she had her head down, as if trying to hide what she looked like. When we went inside the building, I turned on the lights and asked her to sit on one of the beds. She moved very slowly and quietly, until she made it to the bed closest to her.
The medical staff was gone for the night, but I had medical training, which is why Jonah asked me to bring her here myself. As a beta, it was necessary to have many strengths and qualities, but more importantly, one had to have the capacity to save our alpha under the worst circumstances, which is why many of the men who applied for the position had a fair amount of knowledge about medicine.
From what Jonah mentioned, her injuries were only on her face and arms, so it would be okay for me to treat them. I washed my hands and dried them before I walked over to where she was sitting. When she felt me approach her, she stood up and ran towards the door making it seem like I was about to devour her. I shook my head and tried to make her feel reassured.
“Hey, do you want to get treated or not? You probably don't want to be alone with a man so I understand why you’re afraid, but I’m basically a doctor and I need to see your injuries. Trust me, I can help you.”
She ignored me, but I continued to speak in order for her to understand my intention.
“I need you to take a bath before I can disinfect and add the ointments to prevent scarring. I will prepare the tub for you and then I will step outside for a few minutes so you can clean yourself up. There are patient robes on that bottom shelf, so please take one after you’re all done.”
She nodded and when I was done filling the tub with water, I left her alone and stepped outside to give her some space. When I knocked on the door again, she opened it gently, and gave me permission to enter. She sat on the bed again and I grabbed the medical kit to treat her injuries. I began to disinfect the injuries on her arms and then moved to the ones on her face.
She slowly lifted her head and looked at me. Her eyes were green, like two emeralds that carried a sad gaze. I had not seen her full face until now and I felt bad for her, but at the same time something weird built up in my chest. I felt like I was going to cry for some reason. The last time I cried was when I was six years old, but this strange woman was making me feel a pain that was supposed to be non-existent to the Beta of the Arcada pack.
I interrupted my own thoughts and went back to focusing on her injuries. Her right eye and cheekbones were extremely bruised and she had a cut on her bottom lip. Her arms were full of marks that traveled all the way to her wrists. They were whiplash marks that were deep and infected. She also had bare patches on her head that were surrounded with what remained of her golden hair. Her eyes shifted away from me and she looked down at her hands as I continued disinfecting and applying the ointment.
I used bandages to cover her more severe wounds and gave her some herbs to help ease the pain. After I finished treating her, I escorted her to the building complex near the castle that housed some of the maids. I gave her the key to her room and then went back to finish up some paperwork. That night before going to bed, I prayed that our paths would cross only once in a while. That woman invoked a feeling in me that I did not want to experience ever again.
*Sarah's Point Of View*
After my father's death, no one showed me any kindness or compassion. He was the beta of the Corin pack and no matter what the accusations against him were, I knew deep down in my heart that my father never betrayed the Alpha or our pack. My father loved me very much, but his devotion to protecting the Alpha and our pack was unmatched.
My parents met when they were very young and they fell deeply in love with the help of a certain mate bond. They were overjoyed after my birth and we spent many days happily together. They were very special days that I will hold in my heart forever, but as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. When the Alpha's only son was kidn*pped, the lives of everyone in that pack changed and not for the better. The Alpha was devastated by the loss of his son and the pack fell into despair. If the Beta and the pack warriors were unable to keep the Alpha and his son safe, how could they keep the entire pack safe?
All the pressure that was put on my father was intense. More was demanded of him as the years passed, so he spent everyday training the Gamma and the werewolves that were appointed as warriors and the remainder of his time was spent supporting the Alpha and accompanying him on the long travels to search for his lost son. This took a toll on our family and not long after that, my mother began an affair with a werewolf who lived two houses down from ours. She insisted that she only loved my father, but that she was tired of always being alone and that their relationship had ended the moment my father prioritized his job as the Beta.
My father was devastated and he felt betrayed by my mother and her cheap excuses. In the next few weeks, he removed the mate bond, and then asked her for a divorce. My parents never spoke again, but I decided to stay with my father because, in a way, I felt betrayed by my mother too. She spoke about feeling lonely, but how is it possible to feel lonely when you have your only daughter at your side? I was never able to ask her personally or get an answer because three months after the separation, my mother and her lover were attacked and killed by rouges during one of their trips. My father and I still paid our respects at her funeral and visited her grave often.
I missed my mother very much, but I still had my father who would never leave me alone. He was my protector and I knew that we still had a small piece of our family. Although my father returned home very late from work, I tried my best to have his dinner ready on the table and his clothes ready for the next day. He always thanked me for my hard work and when he would leave for long trips he would always bring back a small stone to give to me as a souvenir. Through all the pain and chaos, my father and I were happy, but that all changed when he was accused of treason.
Someone wrote a letter to the Alpha that pointed to my father as the culprit in his son's k********g. Suddenly, everyone turned their backs against my father. Even the pack warriors who he trained insisted that the Beta was at fault. It seemed as if the pack wanted to spill someone's blood because of the disappearance of their future Alpha, and they chose to spill my father's blood. Although there was no solid proof that my father had something to do with the k********g, he was killed mercilessly. Before I was exiled, I was humiliated and almost beaten to death by the angry pack members. Whenever I tried to go out to buy food, someone would already be waiting outside of my home to attack me and soon they began to break the windows to try and hit me with rocks from the outside.
When the Alpha learned about the attacks, he had no choice, but to get rid of me. He had already spilled my father's blood, so he exiled me instead of killing me. I spent several days wandering around and looking for work in the nearby villages outside of Corin's borders, but the only places that had openings were brothels. I was very close to giving up, but that same night I was almost trampled on by a carriage that carried the future Alpha of the Arcada pack. I told him very little about myself, but he was kind enough to help me and offered me a job as a maid in his castle.
As we entered the estate I was amazed by the beautiful gardens and the castle. We entered the main room where a very beautiful young woman stood, but then I was escorted to the infirmary by the Beta. While walking towards the building that stood on the edge of the estate, the air was filled with the thick scent of lavender. Even after we entered the building, it smelled absolutely wonderful and my mouth watered as the scent filled my nose.
The Beta, who insisted he was a doctor, treated my wounds and then showed me to my room before he left. Was everyone in the Arcada pack this nice? Maybe I would be able to live peacefully here or maybe they would agree to help me prove my father's innocence in exchange for the information I had on the monster who caused his death. That night, I laid in bed and allowed the soft sheets to envelop my body before taking in one more deep breath before I fell asleep. The wonderful lavender scent was gone. Maybe it was the flowers after all.
