A Small Rumor

1005 Words
*Third person's point of view*      It had been two weeks since the wedding ceremony. The neighboring packs of Arcada and Archer all rejoiced because they no longer had to fear the rogues. Two of the strongest packs had come together to ensure their safety and since both Alpha's were bounded by family ties, a war would never break out between the packs. Soon there would be an heir who would become the alpha of both the Arcada and Archer packs. No rogue would ever be a threat to their peace, so what could possibly go wrong?      Aurora and Jonah had not spoken after the events that took place in his room. They had not shared a meal together as husband and wife nor did they share a bedroom. Aurora understood the simple minds of the pack she had joined. A wife's position was only as strong as her husband deemed it to be. She understood that Jonah was not giving her the respect that a mate needed to be given and the thought of this broke her frail heart all over again.      The current situation was not taken lightly by her in-laws who urged Jonah to put on a good act for the workers of the palace and for the rest or the pack members. They knew that those who were closest to them would begin to talk about the situation and the rumors would spread to the rest of the packs. Jonah could not tell them why he was acting the way he was, but until he could find an answer to that dream, he would stay away from Aurora.       The current state of the newlywed couple gave the maids something to gossip about and those who were angry about the future Alpha's marriage knew this would make Aurora a target. They couldn't have asked for a better opportunity. If a husband was not sleeping with his wife then he would have to find comfort somewhere else and many were ready to let the heir to the throne pounce on them until he was satisfied.      Aurora became aware of the gossip going around the estate. It made her feel bad because she was already insecure about herself and she knew that her mate had been with were-woman that were far more beautiful than she was. Even so, she had a strong mind and would not allow something as little as a rumor turn her world upside down. If Jonah wanted nothing to do with her then she would respect his decision, but she would not let anyone look down on her.      Aurora tried her best to distract herself by reading, having tea with her mother in law, and even took it upon herself to manage the household. Her new job included hiring new employees, ordering the restock of food in the estate, and preparing the pay that went out to the workers and maids.  The more distracted she was the less she worried about rumors going around and the less she thought about Jonah.      Sometimes the work became too tiring so Aurora would retire to her room or sit in the living room with her mother in-law. She was kind to Aurora and would always compliment her hard work. For the first time Aurora felt like she had a mother figure and she would spend a lot of time listening to stories about how Jonah's mother met his father.     One morning, Aurora went into the kitchen to give the maids the list of foods that would be needed for that winter ball. Every year the Arcada pack hosted an event to celebrate the holidays and as the future Luna, the task fell onto Aurora. When she turned her back to exit the kitchen one of the maids crashed the tray holding  hot tea onto Aurora's back. Aurora felt a sharp sting as the hot liquid went through her dress and corset. She could not believe the tea was that hot. Was the Luna even able to drink this? she thought to herself.  Aurora turned to see what had happened and was quick enough to see the maid smirk.      Aurora slapped the maid across the face and made her stumble to her feet. The maid began to whimper and looked up to Aurora with confused eyes. Only a few seconds had passed and Aurora ordered the other maids to escort the young lady out of the estate. Aurora took one more look at her before she turned around and walked out of the kitchen.     Everyone was stunned to see her act so defensive. Since Aurora arrived she had always been gentle, but what they didn't know was that she was not going to allow the same mistreatment that happened back at her pack happen here too. Aurora was kind and never liked to take part in discussions, but she would not allow anyone to physically hurt her ever again.     The whole incident happened so quickly that no one saw Leon witnessing the whole scene. He went to inform Jonah as soon as Aurora left the kitchen. When he received the news, Jonah left the training of the pack members to Leon and ran to go check on Aurora. He was going to keep his distance, but he was not going to allow anyone or anything hurt his mate.      He ran into the castle and called the pack doctor himself. When the doctor offered to come Jonah told him that he would personally tend to his wife's wounds. There was no way in hell he would let another man touch Aurora. That would only happen over his dead body. After he ended the call he ordered the maids to get the necessary ointments to put on Aurora's back to keep it from scarring.      Right after he left the maids with strict instructions, Jonah decided to go check up on Aurora. He was hesitant at first, but he knew he would not be able to sleep until he saw that she was okay with his own eyes.
