To The Border

*Third person's point of view*     The day of Jonah's departure arrived sooner than Aurora had hoped for. All morning long she felt a pit in her stomach and she had no appetite. She had a bad feeling about this trip, but she couldn't explain why she was feeling this way. Maybe it was because she didn't want to spend so many days without Jonah or maybe it was just her superstitions playing tricks with her head. Regardless, Aurora didn't want to make Jonah worry because this was a very important matter to him and his father.     When they were done eating breakfast, Alpha Ronald said his goodbye to his Luna and she accompanied him out to the stables. Jonah and Aurora remained in the dining room and before Jonah could open his mouth to speak, Aurora rushed over to him. She hugged Jonah tightly and had no intention of releasing her hold on him. There was a knot in her throat that did not let any words leave her mouth so she only took deep breathes to keep herself from crying. When he saw her worried state, Jonah rubbed her back softly with his hands and lowered his head to kiss her forehead.      "Aurora, you are trembling. I need you to calm down and wait for my return. I will be back before you know it and if for whatever reason there is any delay, I will write to you. Okay?"     "Okay, but please be very careful and come back to me as soon as possible!"      "I will, don't worry. Also, while I'm away I don't want you to leave the estate. I know that the guards and maids can accompany you if you want to go somewhere, but you're my wife and the future Luna, therefore you are a target. I don't trust anyone with your safety so promise me you won't go anywhere."     "I understand that you're worried and I will do as you say, but if your mother does go somewhere I will accompany her and you can not make me change my mind."     "Fine, but only with my mother. Other than that, you are not to set foot outside of the castle."     Aurora gave Jonah a nod followed by a smile and his chest began to feel tight. If he was going to leave he had to do it now because his mate was making it harder with every passing minute. They embraced once again and then shared a soft kiss before Jonah left the dining room. Aurora stayed behind and watched as the doors closed behind him. She wanted nothing more than for her mate to return as soon as possible.     Jonah walked towards the stables where he found his parents. All three of them spoke for a few minutes about the plans after their return which included a very important succession ceremony. When Leon informed them that the rest of the troop members were ready to go, Jonah and his father mounted their horses and bid farewell to the Luna.      The trails that led to the villages near the border were never completely safe, but no rogues would dare attack the Arcada pack upfront, especially not with their Alpha present. They visited each of the villages near the border to check on their state. Some people were living decently, but others were struggling to make ends meet.      Jonah and his father made it their mission to alleviate the stress that their people were going through. While Leon wrote down the list of materials and plans for the home and business renovations, Jonah donated money, jewels, and even bought food for the needy families. It was dangerous to live near the borders because rogues attacked those places before going into the main territory of the packs. That is why they wanted to do what they could to make everyone feel safe. It took a few days to accommodate everyone, but they were able to complete their mission.      They dedicated the last few days to patrolling the borders and when they saw no strange activities within their territory, the Arcada pack led by Jonah and the Alpha prepared to head back to the estate. The night before their return, they decided to camp out in the forest since the nearest village was still many miles away. The troops set up camp with tents for everyone, but before they went to sleep the Alpha, Jonah, and Leon met up in his tent to discuss the money that was spent for the supplies that were given to the villages.      "Leon, go over the financial expenses."     "Of course Alpha. In addition to the money you donated, we spent eight gold coins on wood, bricks, and soil for three out of the four villages. For one of the villages all the asked for was farming tools and more cattle, so we spent three gold coins."     "Very well, I will leave you two to discuss the budget plan for any additional money that may need to go into all of this."     "Father we're in your tent. Let us leave and we can discuss the details in my tent."     "Nonsense J.R. I don't want to interrupt your work, I will sleep in your tent and you two finish up here. The sooner the better. All these wolves who live near the borders need our help. I will see you two in the morning."     "Understood. Good night father."     "Good night son, I'm proud of you."     In the morning, Jonah woke up and immediately  began to pack the plans for other renovations and all other important documents. He wanted to get back to Aurora as soon as possible and that was the only thing on his mind in that moment. Without a warning, Leon entered the tent out of breath and with a terrified expression. Jonah stared at Leon whose skin had gone completely pale.      "Leon..what is it?"     Leon could not find the words to tell Jonah what had happened.      "I won't ask you again! Tell me what is going on!"     Leon tried to swallow the small amount of saliva in his mouth down his dry throat and he spoke.       "Sir, it's the Alpha. The Alpha .... is not waking up."
