*Third person's point of view*
There was no grand funeral for the alpha. The Luna and Jonah decided that they wanted to spend this moment with their loved one alone to say their final good-byes. Soon after that, they both left the estate and traveled to where the alpha was going to be laid to rest. Aurora stayed behind to manage the castle and to send word about the Alpha's passing to the neighboring packs, while Leon stayed to protect the future Luna. The day grew dark and Jonah was not back yet. Aurora became worried and kept walking back and forth in the living room. Her palms were sweaty and she couldn't shake off the thought that something could have happened to Jonah and his mother.
Before Aurora could continue to fill her head with worrisome thoughts, she heard the front doors open. She walked over and found Jonah locking the door behind him, but there was a woman with him that was not the Luna. The woman was covered with a long hooded black cloak, but she didn't look much older than Aurora. In the next few minutes Jonah called for Leon and he grabbed the woman by her shoulder and escorted her outside of the castle. The instant Aurora saw Jonah she felt relieved, but now she was confused. Who was the strange woman? Although she many thoughts were filling her head, she was worried about her mate. With the funeral and burial preparations he had not eaten or slept at all. Aurora still couldn't find the words to comfort him for his loss, so she just spoke the first thing that came to her mind.
“Hey…. U-um are you hungry? The maids all retired to their quarters, but I can cook something for you if you’d like.”
“I want to take a bath first. It was a long ride back home.”
“Okay while you do that I'll make you something to eat and then take it up to your bedroom.”
“...Thank you.”
“Wait before you go, I didn't see your mother come in? Where is she? and who was that young lady?”
“My mother is going to be staying in our private cabin in the mountains. She said she needed some alone time and as for that woman, she is a refugee whom I crossed paths with on my way back to the estate.”
“Oh … Okay, well I'm glad to know your mother is safe and is that woman okay? she seemed very scared.”
“Apparently she was exiled from her pack after her father was murdered for treason. She refused to say anything else about herself, but there were many bruises on her face so I had Leon take her to the infirmary. ”
“Poor thing, I hope she gets well soon. Oh right! the food. I'll be going now and I'll see you in a bit.”
Aurora turned and walked towards the kitchen and Jonah stood there, watching her for a few seconds and then he left the living room too. After Jonah finished taking his bath, he put on his bathrobe and then walked over to sit on his bed. It had been a very long day. He wanted to sleep, but he was also hungry. A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door, followed by Aurora’s voice warning him about her entering his room. He stood up and walked towards her to grab the tray with food from her hands. He set it down on the table near his sofa and then began to eat.
“Thank you for the food.”
“Of course it's no problem at all. I'll leave so you can eat and rest, you must be very tired. Good night.”
Jonah thought he heard wrong, but before he could make sense of her words she was already out the door. He continued to eat until the plate was empty and then remained seated on the sofa thinking of Aurora. He was hoping she would stay and sleep next to him tonight, but she left as soon as she gave him the food. For some reason, Jonah began to feel very irritated. He got up and began to walk around his bedroom until he made up his mind and realized he would not be able to sleep if his mate was not by his side. He rushed towards the door and opened it, but he was surprised when he saw her standing outside of his bedroom. Aurora jumped when she heard his door open. She had gone back to her bedroom and even changed into her nightgown to go to sleep, but she felt restless and mad at herself for being a coward.
“Why didn't I just stay?” She spoke to herself in a low voice.
She had never done anything bold, but she missed Jonah and she wanted to be by his side now more than ever. When she made up her mind, she walked toward his room and just stood at his door, but before she could knock it opened and he was right there. They stared at each other, not knowing what to do or say, but Aurora was growing impatient.
“I know I said I would let you eat and sleep, but I - I just..”
She choked. The words that she was ready to use suddenly disappeared along with her newfound boldness. She realized how ridiculous this idea was and she even began to pity herself for going to see him even after he had made it clear he didn't want to be near her.
“Aurora..”
“No, don't say anything. I-I’m leaving, I just came to … nevermind”
Her voice trailed off and her eyes began to sting. She turned around and began to walk back to her room, but before she could take the third step, she felt a tight grip on her waist. Jonah grabbed her from behind and pulled her close to his chest and whispered into her ear.
“Please, stay.”
Aurora's heart skipped a beat. She was confused, but at the same time she felt as if a weight had been lifted off her chest. She turned to face him, only to be taken into an even bigger embrace. Jonah hugged her tightly, and continued to speak in a low voice.
“I know I have been awful to you these past days, but please just for tonight, let me hold you.”
“But, I thought you didn’t want to be with me anymore.”
“Do you really think that is true? I was on my way out of this room to go see you because I couldn’t take another second of not being with you.”
His words melted Aurora’s heart and made her smile a little. They remained in each other's embrace and then Jonah swept her off her feet and carried her into the bedroom. They both laid in bed staring at each other until Jonah proceeded to kiss her gently, only then did he realize how much he missed the taste of her lips. At the same time, Aurora’s hands moved from his shoulders to his damp hair and she began caressing it with her fingers. Her slow and gentle movements soothed him very much and since he wanted to enjoy more of her touch, he pecked her lips one more time and let her do as she pleased.
Aurora continued to move her fingers around the back of his head, using her thumbs to message him gently in different parts of his scalp. When she heard him take slower and deeper breaths, she knew that he was finally resting. She continued to stare at his sleeping figure, before she also fell asleep.
