*Aurora’s point of view*
In the evening I went to the library and I was reading a book when I suddenly heard the commotion. I opened the doors and saw the maids were running everywhere and yelling at each other to hurry. Jonah was supposed to return tonight. Did something happen?
I needed to know what was happening so I dropped the book and ran towards the main entrance. The first person I saw there was Leon who was talking to some pack members that were in charge of the castle security. When he saw my agitated state he dismissed them and walked towards me, but before he could say anything I interrupted him.
“Leon, where is Jonah? Where is he!”
“Miss Aurora please calm yourself, Jonah is fine he's with the Luna right now, but the Alpha...”
Leon’s voice trailed off and he began to massage his temples. Was this guy actually in a worried state? I had never seen Leon behave this way. He was the Beta of the Arcada pack so strength and honor were expected from him, but even without his role, he came off as a person who was ready for any obstacle that was thrown his way.
“Leon what happened to the Alpha!?”
“The thing is, nobody knows what happened to the Alpha. We camped out in the forest last night and everything was fine. We had inspected the area for rogues and even had pack members on watch that night, but when morning came the Alpha didn’t wake up. He’s still breathing, but he seems to be in a coma.”
“Thank you for letting me know. I need to find Jonah, excuse me”
I went up the stairs as fast as I could and rushed down the hall to the Alpha’s room. How did something like that happen? Was the alpha poisoned? Will the pack doctors be able to wake him up? How is Jonah feeling? All these questions crossed my mind as I approached the bedroom doors. I could hear the doctors explaining something to the Luna so I decided to knock instead of just barging in.
In the next few seconds, Jonah opened the doors and I just stood frozen in front of him. I didn’t know what to say to him so I just grabbed his hand and squeezed it gently. His expression was cold and his eyes looked tired, but he still managed to speak.
“Aurora… what are you doing here?”
“I-I’m sorry, I just wanted to see if you and your father were okay.”
“I’m fine, but the Alpha isn’t so you can’t be here right now. If there’s any time we will talk later.”
Jonah pulled his hand out of my hold and without saying anything else, he went back inside the room and closed the doors. He was angry and I understood why. Jonah admired his father for the kindness he showed his pack and now someone within their borders had attacked the Alpha. I don’t know how I would act if I were in Jonah’s place.
That night instead of finding Jonah myself, I waited in our bedroom. I didn’t want to pressure him more than he already was and I was sure he would come to sleep sooner or later. Everything would be okay once the Alpha was cured, but right now I just needed to support Jonah through this difficult time.
It was a very long night and when I woke up in the morning the other side of the bed was untouched. Jonah never came to sleep.
*Third person’s point of view*
Two days had passed since Jonah’s return, but no words had been exchanged between him and Aurora. The Luna was the one who gave Aurora all the details about the Alpha’s condition. The pack doctors were unable to wake him up and mentioned that he was very vulnerable in his current condition. Jonah spent his time moving from the office to his father’s bedroom and then to the training grounds. He didn’t eat with Aurora and he didn’t sleep in their bedroom either.
The Luna had called him out for the way he was acting, but Jonah ignored her too. The only person who was in close contact with Jonah was Leon. He followed him everywhere and they always seemed to be discussing new plans. Aurora didn’t want to bother Jonah, but she did worry for him. She didn’t know if he was eating right or if he was even sleeping at night and these thoughts made her feel very anxious.
When more days passed, Aurora grew even more wary of Jonah so she went to the one person who was spending the most time with him and who would be able to tell her about his well being. After their daily training, Aurora waited for a little while and then went to find Leon. He seemed to be in a rush, but she needed to know what was going on with her mate.
“Leon, please wait!”
“Miss Aurora, is everything okay?”
“Yes, but well, how can I ask this. I-is Jonah.. Is he okay.”
“Look miss, if Jonah needs to tell you anything he will. You don't need to worry though, he's okay.”
Aurora looked down, disappointed with his short response, but she understood that as the Beta Leon was only loyal to his superiors. She thanked him and then went back inside the castle. In the night just as Aurora was getting ready to go to sleep, Jonah walked into the bedroom without a warning and two maids followed behind him.
“I need you to grab all my things and move them to one of the guest rooms. Do it quickly.”
The maids followed his orders and Aurora just stood there, confused by the current situation. She wanted to give Jonah space and time to relax, but he seemed to be getting more angry as the days passed and so this time she was not able to hold back anymore.
“Stop! Ladies don't move anything and wait outside in the halls.”
The maids stopped and looked at Jonah for his approval. When he gave them a nod, they both walked out leaving just the two of them in the bedroom.
“What are you doing? This is your room. Why don't you want to sleep here anymore? Can you tell me what is bothering you?"
“This used to be my room until you came to Arcada. Now we share this room and I need to be alone in order to focus. I thought you would be asleep by now.”
“So I’m the problem then? Is that why you haven't spoken to me since your return? I understand that you're worried about your father and -”
“You don't understand anything Aurora!”
“Maybe I don't, but if you just talked to me then I would be able to help you! So please just say something, talk to me even if it's just for one minute.”
“Talk to you? You seem to know everything about me now that you’re chasing after the Beta for answers. If something as simple as lack of communication is making you run after other men, then maybe marrying was a mistake.”
*Slap*
Aurora’s hand came into contact with Jonah's face. She never intended to fight with her husband let alone her mate, but Jonah’s words were cruel. All she had done for the past days was worry about him. She would sleep really late and wake up super early just to get a glimpse of him going into the office or to his trainings. Now, he was standing there without a single look of guilt on his face after he had offended her and all she wanted to do was be there for him. When she realized what had just happened between them she left Jonah standing in the room and went to call the maids.
“You will not be moving your master's things. Instead you will grab all of my belongings and take them to my old room.”
When the maids hesitated, Aurora raised her voice again to make sure they understood. They rushed in to get her things, and Aurora left the room without saying anything else to Jonah. Her mind was in a daze. She didn't understand how the problem escalated enough to become something so ugly. She was disgusted by her violet actions, but she had never been so hurt. All the rejection she received from her family back in Archer could never even compare to the way Jonah’s words made her feel.
When she made it back to her old room she asked the maids to leave everything on the bed and then dismissed them. Her knees gave in and she fell to the floor as the heavy tears began to spill from her eyes. She stared at the palm of her hand that felt hot and was still tainted red.
She wasn't able to sleep that night and when the sun came out the next day, her eyes were swollen from crying. When the maids knocked on her door, she informed them that she would skip breakfast and then asked them to leave. She dedicated the entire morning to putting her belongings back in their original places and then took a bath and put on a light pink tulle dress. She brushed her hair into a ponytail and then applied some makeup to hide the dark circles under her eyes. She decided to continue with her normal routine for the rest of the day in hopes that this would help keep Jonah out of her thoughts.
