Mira's Pov
"The Prince asked us to prepare you to meet with the King," the maid uttered as soon as I opened the door for them to come in. I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out as I thought of it. Meet with the King?
Days have passed since Prince Perry freed me from being a maid, yet I still couldn't wrap my head around it. Was it out of kindness or pity, I couldn't fathom. I knew better than to believe in fairy tales. I was not a lost queen rescued from difficulty. I knew the prince was up to something but I couldn't tell what it was exactly.
Though the people in the castle treated me with reluctant respect. I was addressed as “Lady Mira" but that didn't change the fact that I wasn't eyed with suspicion. After all, I had been a mere maid just a few days ago. Worse, the whispers of my true lineage have spread round all through the Lavender palace.
“The daughter of a traitor," they muttered in hushed voices. “How would the Prince bring someone like her here? ”
I gripped my fists as I maintained a good stance for the maid to work on me remembering the harsh words from the people. Only if I can scream at them and let them know that my father was never a traitor.
For the Prince to say I was meeting the King, it meant the news must've gotten even out of the palace and I was sure the entire kingdom must've heard of it. Though, the Prince has tried his best to hide me for days but it never worked out.
Few hours later, I stood beside Prince Perry at the majestic entrance of the royal hall in the Lumina palace, the palace of the Lycan King waiting for the door to be opened. I haven't heard much about the King but I know people talk about how powerful, and wise he was. Just like his son, everyone respected him and that made me even want to see him even when I knew meeting him might not be too good. Well, I couldn't predict
The heavy wooden door was soon opened and we were ushered in. As always, Prince Perry took the lead while I caught myself behind him. We strode into the palace throne but there was no sight of the king sitting on his throne. I became agitated. I was afraid of Prince Perry but my fear grew the more I thought of the King.
We got to the throne and Prince Perry made a pause that made me wonder what was going on not until I saw the throne move and out of nowhere, the King came out.
His intense gaze dragged into mine as I widened my eyes in the process until I figured out I shouldn't be staring daggers into his eyes like that so Quickly lowered my eyes, fixing them on the cold, marble floor beneath my feet.
The king’s voice boomed through the hall. "So, this is the girl my son has brought to my kingdom?" I gulped as he added, “ A traitor’s daughter?”
I flinched at his words, my hands trembling. Not again. A traitor's daughter, a traitor's daughter, when was this ever going to stop!
"What's your purpose here, girl?" His question brought me back to life an I'md I raised my head to look at him as he continued, “What spell have you cast on my son to make him blind to your bloodline?'
My eyes widened in shock. Spell? What the hell was the King saying? I casted a spell on his son or his son brought me to the kingdom?
“I…I ” I opened my mouth to speak, but my throat tensed. Words refused to come out.
“Enough!” the king snapped. “You stand before me, silent and shaking, yet you expect me to believe you are innocent? ”
Perry stepped forward. “Father_”
The king raised a hand, silencing him. “ You do not understand the weight of your actions, perry. Her father is a traitor! And now you expect me to welcome his daughter into our palace? ”
I felt my knees weaken. Why would he just admit that my father was truly a traitor? Can someone at least believe that nothing like that has happened?
Out of nowhere, a soft voice broke the heavy silence. “My king, maybe we should not judge so quickly. ”
I turned my head slightly but what I saw made my head turn completely and with my lips still parted, I scanned the figure in front of me. Excellent? Was that all I could use to describe the figure in front of me? The statuesque figure, adorned with intricate gold jewelry, flowing silken robes, and a crown, with her long, curly hair cascading down her back, framing her heart-shaped face and piercing, bright eyes strode in like she was having a parade and then, the voice rang in my head. The Queen? Yes, the Queen!
She walked closer and landed her gaze on me but shifted it as soon as she got to the throne. Placing a comforting hand on the king’s arm, her radiant voice came out again. “Why are you venting your anger this way? The little girl is afraid of you, her legs are trembling."
As if she knew what was happening. I was seriously not myself again. Empowered with both fear and shock. She knew it, she could tell how I was feeling.
The king exhaled sharply. “You expect me to simply allow this? ”
The queen smiled softly. "Her father is a traitor doesn't make her a traitor," she cooed and I couldn't help but fall in love. What a lady!
“Take her and leave my palace this instant,” the king said coldly and I knew my fate had ended. The King doesn't want me in his Kingdom, what then would become of me after I had been freed from being a slave.
Prince Perry turned swiftly and I needed no one to tell me what to do. Running after him, I couldn't help but notice his reaction. His expression has become hard now but as always, it was unreadable. I expected him to confront his father but since he never did, it explained the respect he has for his father. Even if he was also powerful, his father has all control over him. It was good but not to me. His father has declared that I leave while he has granted me freedom. Who exactly will I listen to?
|Later That Night|
I stared at him lost in thought. Was he really nice to me or just trying to play smart? The questions kept ringing in my ear.
After returning from the Lumina palace, he has asked me to join him in the study room where I heard no one has ever been before. The maids have gossiped that I was lucky the moment he asked them to bring me in but was that it?
"Can you read?" He asked me and I nodded. Yeah, he might think I cannot because I was a slave when he met me but he shouldn't forget that I wasn't born a slave. "Go through the shelves and see what you can read," he uttered as he took his seat in front of the desk in the middle of the study room and I turned to do what he asked me to do.
I returned back to him with a book about the kingdom and he nodded for me to have my seat. Ever since that time, he hasn't said a word, not to me or anyone. He has been writing on one piece of paper and the other, the only time he opened his mouth to speak was when lunch was brought to us and that has been hours.
I kept sighing, hoping he would send me out both rather, he kept throwing glances at intervals and it made my head go into convulsion. I couldn't even believe that I could read for that long.
I got lost staring at him until I suddenly started hearing voices outside the study room and before we knew what was happening, the study room door was pushed open and the familiar face bursted in. The Queen?
"I told her you're busy but she refused," the maid that followed the Queen said to Perry but he dismissed her with his hand.
I stood up the moment the maid shut the door and lowered my head to greet the Queen. "Oh my dear!" She rushed over to me and pulled me into a large hug, shocking me in the process.
"Mom, what's this all about? What do you want?"
She ignored his words and held my hand. "Come with me. Let's take a stroll around the palace," she countered, throwing her son a glance before pulling me out of the study room. Oops, I bet she could read every one of my thoughts.
