“What? Are you surprised?” the guard asked while looking at Ashia. “Honestly, how bold can you bastards be? Anyway, it doesn’t matter, I just have to kill you here.”
The man’s words didn’t seat well with Ashia. Was her arrival here predicted? Or did someone leak information regarding her mission to the enemy? Either way, she had to carry on. Chunks of debris flew around the whole place as the fog had been replaced with dust and dirt caused by two mages who were fighting with all the intention to kill each other. The caravan remained unharmed amidst all the pieces of the earth and trees that flew about, a barrier must have been put up to protect the caravan, seem like the merchandise transported by these people really is special.
After some time passed, the battle between the two Ascension class mages seemed to be reaching its c****x. They were done with the small and intermediate spells. It was time to pull the big guns. Both mages had strong magic affinities. Ashia was a special one as she possessed two affinities, water and ice. This was commendable, and it’s why she is regarded as a rare talent because most people were born with just one magical affinity. People who are born with two are rare and are considered gems by their Kingdom and everyone else. Her opponent however, had an affinity with earth. Normally, this would be a disadvantage because ice is a high tier elemental affinity, but unfortunately for Ashia, her opponent’s affinity with earth was remarkably high.
As both of their magic clashed, the impact sent both sides flying in the opposite direction. Ashia raised her right hand up slightly, after about two seconds after raising her hand, a mini chaotic storm of snow appeared just a few feet behind her, at a position above her head. Irrespective of the word mini, it was big enough to wash down more than halve of the caravan. The icy wind that accompanied this snow storm blew apart the surrounding trees, uprooting those with weak roots. The caravan seemed to be unaffected, probably because of the barrier, but the other mage was looking at the storm with a worried expression on his face. Although he did his best to hide it, it was still there. With a hard grin on his face, he prepared his own spell. ‘As if having two affinities isn’t enough, this little girl’s mana is enormous. I might end up running out of mana at this rate.’
“Little girl, you seemed to have crafted something dangerous there. It would be shameful if I were to lose to a child. Very well!” While he was speaking, the earth shook, as two giant snakes shaped pieces of the earth rose from the ground, each to his sides. With no words or warning, both of them launched their attacks.
“Dancing Ice Cyclone!”
“Stone Twin Serpent!”
As the magic from both mages met each other, it seemed like the earth mage would come out victorious, as the pieces of ice in Ashia’s spell were too small to affect the stone serpents greatly, but what appears after wards would shock the earth mage to no end. His Twin Serpents that were made of stone were completely gone, from halfway to the top. The Spell Dancing Ice Cyclone might not be accompanied by boulder pieced ice particles, but the ice roaming within the cyclone is fast and strong enough to eat out of the rock like paper inside a shredder. If it wasn’t for the barrier, the caravan would have gone together with the surrounding trees that had been reduced to shrubs by the Ice girl’s attack.
“How? Stone Twin Serpent is a 5th tier magic, how is this possible?” the shock on the guard’s face could not be hidden as he doubted the scene before his eyes.
“I used 6th tier magic, so it’s natural that it would overpower your 5th tier magic. Worry not, you are about to die by the hands of a capable mage, that should put you at ease.” Although Ashia sounded confident, she was more concerned with the fact that even a 6th tier magic such as Dancing Ice Cyclone couldn’t break the barrier protecting the caravan carts. The others inside the caravan were beyond scared after witnessing the show of strength between these powerful mages. Ashia thought to herself to investigate the caravan after she killed the guard who sat on the ground, almost completely drained of mana.
As he moved closer to the guard, she felt a chill on her shoulders, as if death hung over shoulders. It was so unexpected and frightening that she impulsively halted her movements. Her will was no longer enough to force her legs to move. The guard in front of her had a look of terror too. Then, with a hand placed gently on her shoulder, a low grumpy male voice spoke from behind.
“You have done well to send my men to the afterlife. Indeed, an outstanding achievement.” The mysterious man walked past her towards the guard. Now she had gained a little liberty in her movement, as the man spoke again. “Carius, you disappoint me. To let such a little girl beat you, it seems I’ll have to be less lenient.” After hearing this, Carius, the guard that fought with Ashia last pleaded with the man, but the man who seemed to be his master wouldn’t acknowledge his plea.
With a wave of his hands, a sharp pain went through Ashia’s body, running through like she was pierced with a needle. She fell to the ground, a trail of blood going out of her mouth. Whatever magic this man had used seemed to have caused some serious internal injuries just now.
“To think someone would be bold enough to attack I, Uruak. The world really has changed. You seem to be from the Kingdom of Esnoch. That’s good. I’ll leave you alive for now. Killing you now will only justify those idiotic claims of me being a senseless killer. You there, get someone to assist you in carrying this one into one of the carriages. No need to bother about her escaping, that’ll be impossible.”
As Uruak walked away towards the carriage he was in, all Ashia saw was his cloak flapping as the wind greased through it. She lost consciousness while laying on the ground and passed out. When she woke up finally, a sharp pain greeted her, as she spoiled her face from the pain. She could tell that it had been at least two days since she passed out, while laying on her back inside a cart roofed with brown linen. ‘It seems I won’t be able to escape from here. I can’t even move my body. I’m not surprised. If it’s the medicine King Uruak, aside from the fact that he is a Demi-god class mage, his experience with poisons truly can’t be underestimated. Why would the King of Medicine be riding in a caravan of this level? Something’s not right. Could it be that the King knew of this? If so, I would be playing straight into his trap! I might as well just wait now. I won’t be able to do anything even though I wanted to.’ Asia remained on the floor of the cart, facing up as these thoughts went through her mind. The situation was quite troubling. She could only lay there in the cart through the bumpy ride to the Capital, which on estimate was about four more days to go.
After reaching the Capital, the caravan was well received and on inspection, the guards found Ashia in one of the carts. They immediately moved to apprehend the whole caravan, as it was clear that Miss Ashia was been kept as a captive. After much hassle, Uruak demanded an audience with the King of the Kingdom, King Bael. Throughout the ordeal, the guards couldn’t stand the arrogance of the man who claimed to be Uruak, a name they the guards have heard only in the stories of old, and yet someone could boldly declare himself as him while barely looking 50 years old, preposterous. The caravan was led to the castle courtyard, and was not allowed access any further than that. Every guard aware of the situation was already agitated and ready for battle at any moment. Not only has this imposter been arrogant through the entire time, he dare to treat Miss Ashia, one of the young beauties of the kingdom like a slave.
“This guy is tired of his manhood.” A guard who was passing by on duty said to his partner while gnashing his teeth as they went by the caravan.
Soon after, the king himself came in person to see the one who claimed to be Uruak. “I, am King Bael, the ruler of this Kingdom. Let the one who claims to be the Medicine King Uruak come out!” The King’s voice was gentle but carried a hidden ferociousness behind it. It was almost like a tiger looking down at its prey, ready to snap it in half.
“Calm yourself Bael, you are scaring my men an awful lot.” A voice came from within the carriage that looked the best out of the other carts. As King Bael heard the voice, he let out a tiring exhale.
“Uruak, it really is you. You sound as sly as ever.”
“Oh come on now Bael, don’t paint me out to be the bad guy. This time I didn’t kill anyone from your Kingdom for disrespecting me. Even the assassin girl was left unharmed.” Uruak said as he stepped out and walked towards King Bael.
King Bael glared at Uruak for a short while before responding, “What do you mean by assassin?”
The tension in the air was heavy. As Uruak read Bael’s eyes, he immediately understood what Bael was trying to tell him. ‘Hmph, he calls me sly but does the worst.’ “Why don’t you invite me in first Bael, before we continue our discussion.
“My apologies. Let’s head inside.” King Bael said as he turned to lead the way.
King Bael and Uruak sat in a big room, just two of them. Bael ordered every other person to step out. They had a relatively long discussion covering different things.
“So, may I know why you plan on eliminating the young girl?” Uruak asked with a mild smile on his face. His face always had a little smile on it, even when faced with danger, which makes him appear more evil than he may really be.
“I have my own reasons that I won’t discuss at the moment. I ask that you cooperate with me, please bare it a little more.”
“You know, people say I’m an evil and cruel person, and the same people turn around to call you a hero. Tut, at least I do things openly. Very well, I will honour your request and cooperate. Shall we bring the poor girl in now.”
