“Hey you! Go call the chief and the saviour! Now!!” A guard who was bleeding from different spots on his body yelled aimlessly to the other guards that stood behind him.
“What was that noise?” The village chief from his quarters asked the guard standing at his door. “Quickly, go find out what is happening.” ‘This better not be what I’m thinking.’ Just as the other who was in the chief’s house left, another guard arrived. “Didn’t you hear me? I said go and check what is happening!”
“Chief!”
‘It’s a different person.’ “Report immediately! What is it?”
“Chief! The village is under attack! It’s a demonic beast!”
“What!? Damn! This is sooner than expected. I have to check on our saviour right now, and get her if possible. ‘that boy said he was helping her to heal. I hope he is done. If not, we might actually died completely this time.” The village chief ran out of the house immediately he wore his top, towards the house Ashia was. As he was approaching the house, he saw Julius sitting on the roof leisurely, as if nothing was happening, staring at the sky as though it hung a beautiful sunset across. ‘What’s with that guy?... He’s not important for now. First, I need to get the saviour.’
As the chief entered the room, after barging in, he called out to Ashia who asleep on her bed, completely oblivious to all the noise and commotion going on outside. He shouted her name, but to his surprise nothing came out of his mouth. No sound was produced, and he also couldn’t hear any sound from outside. ‘What is this magic? Sound magic?’
“No it’s not sound magic, but something similar.” Julius said while standing at the door. “Ashia shouldn’t be disturbed, she needs to rest well because the next phase of her treatment will be tough. I will take care of the demonic beast, so you should just leave her for now.” The chief came out after realizing that there was nothing he could do. He couldn’t get close to Ashia due to a barrier surrounding her, and he couldn’t talk to her either thanks to Julius’ weird skill which he couldn’t even comprehend.
“Hey kid, I know you are powerful, but even the last beast that miss. Ashia killed is nothing compared to this one. I do not believe that you can defeat it. We should...”
“Chief Zarks. If Ashia couldn’t defeat the previous demonic beast in her full strength without such life threatening injuries, how do you expect her to kill one which you yourself have said to be leaps stronger than the last in the condition she is? Are you perhaps planning on committing a double suicide? And I didn’t really see you as the type too.”
“Wha.. what are you saying!?”
“As they say, looks can be deceiving. Never judge a clamp by its shell indeed.”
“Boy! Stop spouting nonsense! Fine, we have wasted enough time chatting. You say you can handle it? Then remember that the lives of my people are in your hands. If you let them die, you shall regret it.”
‘Why do I feel like his old man is about to regret these words?’ Julius thought to himself. “Instruct your men to retreat. I will be handling the animal myself.” The chief listened and did as Julius told him to.
“Everyone, fall back now! Take does who are wounded, pick them up and head back! Five of you, scan through the rubbles and the near-by houses for any survivor and take them away from the area. Remember, if you remain close to the beast, you might die along with it!” The guards followed through with the orders given by the chief. Counter to what the chief thought would happen, Julius, instead of attacking the beast immediately, stopped and waited for the guards to carry out their orders.
“What is the meaning of this kid? Why aren’t you doing anything? Errggg! Ar...!”
“Hey old man, why not look before you talk? Stop talking bat shit.” Chief Zarks was cut off before he could finish he’s sentence. With anger, he turned to face the demonic beast, only to see that it wasn’t moving. The demonic beast just stood in one spot staring at Julius with saliva dropping from the side of its mouth through its teethes that were exposed the entire time.
‘Wh... What.. is going on? Why did the beast suddenly stop?’ the chief thought to himself as he looked towards the demonic beast, completely confused. “Look! Kid look!” ‘This is bad, the beast is getting angrier as time goes by. Look at how it’s shaking. If this beast lashes out with this anger that causes it to shake, we are dead for sure!”
“What? Look at what?”
“That! Look at that! Can’t you see how the beast is trembling with anger? If it bursts out that kind of rage, we are finished.” After hearing this, Julius looked at the chief a little confused.
‘Is this old man senile? What anger?’ Julius thought to himself.
From the demonic beast’s perspective; ‘Who is this monster!? Why did those bastards release me knowing full well that such a monstrous beast was present here!?? Whaaaa! Mummy! Come take me hooomee!!’ the trembling the chief saw and thought was anger was a physical manifestation of the beast’s fear. The village chief thought the beast was making prey killing noises, but the beast was actually fumbling in its attempt to growl and snarl. The beast was standing before the one who will judge it’s journey to the afterlife, if one exists for animals.
“Alright old man, its time for the show to begin.”
“You always look and act so dead and nonchalant most of the time. And why are you so exited facing death? Don’t tell me you are one of those pain loving bastards.”
“Old man, I hate pain so much that I fought and destroyed half of the heavens just to get the gods to change my gender so that I wouldn’t experience the pain of child labour.”
‘Such blatant lies!’ “I’ll come with you so that I can provide some assist.”
“Do as you wish. Just be careful not to die by friendly fire.”
“Pst, this face makes it impossible to tell if he’s serious or only joking.”
As they walked closer, with the chief asking himself why they were walking instead of charging ahead, the beast might be a demonic beast that are stronger and more fortuitous than normal mana beasts of the same level, but its eyes were certainly filled with fear. Although, to the chief it was anger and rage, Julius knew quite well what it was. Since animal’s senses of danger are shaper than humans, even a demonic beast that has a low perceptive nature could tell who much of a monster was before him. the chief must be either dumb or just too weak to notice.
‘It seems chief Zarks is unable to sense how strong I am. It’s probably because of the fact that I’m now a cultivator... hehe. But it seems like the beast can sense a small portion of my strength. Normally demonic beasts, because of their savage nature are less perspective to danger, but it looks like I have become powerful enough to make even a strong demonic beast fear me to the extent of shitting its pants. Hehehe. Alas! I’m too powerfulll.’
On top a tree just a few feet into the nearby jungle, “What’s wrong with the demonic creature? why is it just standing still? Brother, was this beast a type that had a spell that needed a long activation time?”
His partner who was also hiding in one of the trees answered, “NO. Whatever is happening to the beast has to stop, if not we’ll be the dead ones.”
“After these beast, the two hiding within the trees are next, followed by all the beasts they are carrying.”
